peasy23
Had to nip out to Tesco earlier, it was busier than I've seen it at any point since this all started. Still amazes me how many people that look as if they would fall into the vulnerable age group want to spend their time in a busy supermarket. Tbf though, it was at Parkhead, where the locals make the Springburn populace look healthy.

Billy Jean King
Some places will be ripping the pish tbf - I saw a local newsagents post on Facebook about how they were staying open 'for cards, papers and sweeties', which regardless of your view of how justifiable the rules are, seems to me to be pretty incontrovertibly 'non-essential'. Earlier in the pandemic MixuFruit started a thread on here listing businesses who were behaving poorly towards their staff etc. It's obviously not quite on the same level but throughout I've found it pretty instructive to see which businesses, large and small, have taken safety measures etc seriously and which have been more lax. I'm not totally up to date with what financial support is available to businesses etc but I've been in numerous shops/establishments where I've gotten the distinct feeling that a message must have come from the owners/managers saying that the rules and best practice regarding safety of staff and customers are there to be bent or got around in order to minimise the financial impact on the owners. It was Majestic wine that seemed to be a magnet to their seethe. 100% essential in my book, top boiz.

People are strange ! ....but noone remembers your name. If they hadn't added legal force to the no travel angle it would have been difficult to see how level 3 to level 4 made enough of a difference to justify all the media fuss.
Michael W
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55036797 The usual drip feeding and hinting has been in place so perhaps this isn't a surprise, but this is highly irresponsible. Whatever spike and resulting deaths are entirely on the Government and devolved governments. "I'm alright Jack" card played for disclosure - I won't be visiting family this Christmas but might've were it not for covid. It would not be worth three weeks of lockdown in January, especially when things are starting to look promising with the vaccine.

If we shut down everything in January then that'd be quite good actually. Pointless month, atrocious weather: just call a special six weeks off and tough luck to key workers. I'm not convinced that it's really an either/or decision though. They'll be going for a lockdown in January regardless so it's a case of whether the government chooses to green light what people will do at Christmas anyway or tries to keep a lid on it altogether.

It would not be worth three weeks of lockdown in January, especially when things are starting to look promising with the vaccine. They'll probably be starting vaccinations from not long after the 11th as FDA approval for Pfizer and Moderna will almost certainly be on the 10th and the EU and UK will pretty much be in lock step with that. Once needles start hitting very wrinkled upper arms in care homes the media spin will be all about how quickly things can return to normal rather than hysteria over the latest new cases and deaths numbers and calls for harsher lockdown rules. Nicola S has Level 4 ending on Dec 11th, so it's easy for her in terms of media response to get the west central belt opened up for the Christmas retail season.

Gaz
An absolute wid I used to work with is utterly perplexed on Facebook that schools are open but her wean can't go to Kip McGrath with three other weans, and that big shops like ASDA are open but beauty salons and hair salons are shut. She's not an idiot. I refuse to believe she doesn't understand that eating is essential and getting your nails done isn't.
