Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The current NHS occupational health guidance for Covid-19 identifies staff with a 40+ BMI as at high-risk, which changes how they can work during this.

It's possible to put different measures in place for different parts of the population and attach all kinds of caveats and exceptions to it.

It's certainly possible, but it's certainly not realistic.

This part has some validation:

Do you ever take a few seconds to check out who you're listening to and trusting on youtube? You really have to develop the same type of scepticism and filtering needed for interpreting the MSM as you do for random dubiously qualified men in white coats in America.

It's the MO of the conspiracy nutters in friends with on fb. Constantly posting primary school level advice like "don't trust everything you read in the newspapers /MSM" yet some fanny just needs to stick a tie / labcoat on and fire up a YouTube video and they blindly believe every word they say.

Have one guy who has met David Icke a number of times and he knows he's a good guy because "he looked in his eyes and saw how pure his soul was".

Thanks, I guess.

Do you think characterising young people by their apparent interest in reality TV is a good basis for a stimulating debate about different generations' needs during a public health crisis? I'm sorry but this is the classic ark of how these types of discussion go. Starts off with some accusation of young people being stupid or irresponsible, usually always with an insulting reference to low-brow culture (Strongbow Dark Fruits yesterday, reality TV today) and then whenever relevant events from recent history are brought up, it's stop the name calling, we're all in this together.

I think most of us should be / are well aware we have lots of very good young posters and also lots of very good older posters. Age really doesn't come into it.

There's lots of posters on here that I'd say I share many of my own views both politically and socially but I've no idea what age they are, there's also lots of posters who have polar opposite views but if they articulate their viewpoints and arguments then whether I agree with them or not, I always respect them.

I've said it before but for a supposed football forum full of dafties, I think for the most part we do a pretty good job here, with generally intelligent and well researched discussion with a fair sprinkling of humour, satire, sarcasm and innuendo, what more could you ask for ?

What I'm trying to get at in a long roundabout way is that the posters on here are much more than reality tv show, stronbow drinking young upstarts or Yer da, Gin swilling old gits that think they've done it all and know it all.

We're all much better than that even if we don't always agree with one another......

Last free lesson, next one you pay for.

Interesting.

Such a reading sees the 'however' as parenthetical, which I suppose it is really.  I'd argue that using a comma only after the word, allowed me to place the pause where I wanted it.  I'd see this as a question of taste rather than rules, as is often the case with commas.

I intend, however, to make use of this free lesson in future musings.  Thanks for providing it.

Generation X was published in 1991.

I don’t know why I can’t quote your first post.

Yeah I’m sure it isn’t the only reason but I think it was a big part of it. I remember those elections and 2001 in particular was a procession. It’s almost surreal to look back on those elections where you had centrist New Labour SDP-types fighting with a harder right Conservative party, albeit one with reminding pro-EU tendencies. Both of those groups in British politics are very marginal now but they were kind of the only shows in town then. The left were completely irrelevant but now you’ve got an opposition even under Starmer who are far to the left of anything Labour out forward in the 90s and 00s.

I do think it’s interesting though that lots of people complain about “everything being political” now but the measure of basic political engagement was far higher 25 years ago when people didn’t say that, at least as far as I remember it.

I'm guessing that most of these Einsteins won't be in the best of health next week.

A GROUP of covidiots have broken the coronavirus lockdown for a "social distancing swally" in a wasteground in Coatbridge.

Around 30 gathered for the boozy outdoor party yesterday, swilling Buckfast, vodka and MD 20/20 - with one woman joking she'd end up in jail

Bottles of booze are raised high in the air as the gang celebrate in the sun - with others making rude gestures.

This is an informative Vox article from last year about viruses escaping from labs. If it didn't escape from the Wuhan virology lab which specialises in Corona viruses it is some coincidence.
