welshbairn
Thought that the "moonshot" was something new, a quick antibody test that could quickly determine if people are risk free from having contracted and recovered from the virus before, but it's not. It's just a quicker version of the antigen test we have now that uses saliva instead of swabs, so just as many false positives from dead viral traces as now if @Todd_is_God is right, hundreds of thousands of people falsely stopped from going about their business unnecessarily. And if you're negative one day you could be positive the next. Brave new Swedish world indeed.

And if you're negative one day you could be positive the next. Brave new Swedish world indeed. A 99% accuracy rate leaves you an almost 50/50 chance of being given a false positive if you take the test twice a week for six months, according to SAGE. https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-scientists-doubtful-as-leaked-government-document-reveals-plans-for-10-million-tests-by-next-year-12067722 I’d be very surprised if this technology is up and running before a vaccine. If it’ll ever exist, and that’s before we even get into the mooted £100bn cost. You could extend furlough until next autumn at that price, or create a second NHS for nine months.

Distant Doonhamer
But they're keeping the Woking branch open, apparently. No sweat over that decision I’d imagine.

Big Fifer
Was there some sort of ceremonious unveiling of this new app that I've just missed? I'd have thought they'd want to shout a bit louder. First I heard was someone pinging the link onto a group chat this morning.

Is it virginton, with his paranoid ramblings about some kind of parental cabal to rival the Illuminati influencing our society? Or maybe Todd_is_God, who somehow has managed to equate that bucket of high-grade bullshít Downing St threw at us yesterday with "the Swedish model"? We've all come up with theories or arguments on here which have been proved erroneous as the pandemic continues, but these two have been consistent in their ability to deliver, with utter conviction, absolute tripe on a consistent basis. Over the last few days, they appear to both have stepped it up a gear, and this is surely worthy of recognition?
Michael W
Following on from ICTChris' question of when the enhanced restrictions will land, any takers for when the first video of an overly-officious 'Covid Marshall' on a massive power trip appears on social media? I'll go with Tuesday. Edited September 10, 2020 by Michael W

But, what would you rather, a test which, if 99.5% specific (a number that would be increased by lowering the cycle threshold) could allow 21,304 people (based on 108 positives) into Pittodrie this weekend to behave normally, or, we continue to hold nonsense trials of a few hundred people to make sure we can allow maybe 25% capacities at some undetermined point in future, wearing masks and not being permitted to sing or celebrate?

Even if it was possible to test 21,000 people before a game, it's unlikely to happen before 2021/22, so probably after a vaccine makes it unnecessary. Still have no idea why you think this would be following the Swedish model, and am curious if you think Nicola should follow the 6 max and Street Covid Commissars policy?
