Pathetic.

*A PTTGOMN, but knicker-wetters who leap to defend specific groups against perceived slurs when those allegedly abused couldn't give a f**k. Just yesterday a fellow delegate ripped into someone on our course for using the word "Jock" - not about me, but in my presence. Funny thing was, they were using the word in its US context of sports enthusiast, and I am not, and never have been, what you would call a gym bunny or fitness freak. I was far more offended by the idea that I needed defending by a wee fella who is younger than half my kids.

Quite regularly throughout this thread, people have made wild accusations accusing other of wanting this harsh restriction in place, and of being scared of x, y and z and how pathetic they are. I was accused the other night of being paranoid about restrictions being lifted, then subsequently told my concern for, and observations about, the mental wellbeing of my own kids, meant I didn't give a f**k about adults. It's partisan nonsense. And zero hard feelings. This whole shitshow is a nightmare for everyone in their own way.

Literally the only evidence of this, is that some people haven't been quite as gung ho with the critisicsm, or anti the pronouncements, or lengthy posts expressing outrage, disgust, anger at Devi and Co. Any pushback on that is taken to mean much much more than it actually means, and it all snowballs out of control. Or have wanted to wait and see a bit more before firing off both barrels into the media crafted opinions of the latest public enemy. Or wanted to see the actual science beifre making decisions.

Fact is, we're all really on the same page. It's a manufactured division, grouping people into "teams" utterly ridiculously, because every single one of us wants the same things.

I wonder if there will be a change in tune from academics as more evidence regarding transmission occurs.

I agree up to a point.

This is the point.

“Prof Bauld warned international travel and mass gatherings were unlikely this summer but feels the data is heading in the right direction.”

Think we are trying to be positive to the future before the vast majority of us will be a seething mess on Tuesday when the new tiers are announced (myself included).

If you can get past that old boy I'd quite like to get away.  I didn't learn Spanish so I could show off down the local Mexican.
And I want to take the kids on Safari Next year, I don't think Blair Drummond will cut it.

No problem with you getting away old boy!

We could keep the restrictions to just Eastern Europe?

Spent last night watching football, and missed this Linda Nails article.

Excellent news on the whole, and good to hear a bit of positivty. Seems it's on the back of the transmission study results yesterday.

Bit disconcerting though (although perhaps not surprising) that she doesn't think mass gatherings will be on the go. But then, define what a mass gathering is.....

50 folk in a Chapel is a mass, wonder if she's leaked a government u turn in response to the main players dismay at the recent announcement.

I'd expect mass gatherings to be festivals and the like. Outdoor events, especially those that can be ticketed and seating arrangements made, should be some of the first to return and I'd expect them long before the likes of Transmit.

Transmit is off until they find a suitable name change.   No way can an event that has transmit as its name proceed said the national clinical director, its too risky and we just don't know...
I'd agree with Jason. We just can't take the risk of the as yet undiscovered Trnsmt Vrnt emerging if it was to go ahead.

Strangely enough "Devi" seems to get most of her coverage on here as I think I can count on the one hand the number of times I've heard her name mentioned in the msm since this pandemic began.

I should add that I don't venture on to Twitter nor Facebook so maybe she appears / is discussed there regularly ??

I also watch the SG update every day and again I think I've heard NS refer to her once and that was in relation to a journalists question, so personally I just don't really get why everyone gets so uptight about her ??

If you look around European media, a lot of the scientific advisors that are regularly interviewed etc get panned by the proles. Whitty and Valance get it really tight down south just as an example, and much of the patter is similar to what we see on here for Leitch and Devi. If you just search sackchriswhitty on twitter, you'll see what I mean. Virtually identical stuff.

I think it's because this is having such an impact on people's lives, that the perception is that there people's advice, or decisions, could seriously restrict what people can do - so if you disagree, or their ideas aren't popular, it's a bit worse than your manager constantly playing your left back at right back, or whatever. Like few other issues, this stuff affects absolutely everybody, so nothing is niche,
