Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Recommended Posts

I'd much prefer a proper review of the actual effectiveness of lockdowns etc before granting the SNP the option to impose them at will.

Lockdowns should not, under any circumstances, become a relatively casual "go to" response to any situation.

In the unlikely event another situation arises in future where Scotland needs to lock down, then the UK as a whole will be in the same boat making it a non issue.

The SNP looking for something they know they will be told "no" to in order to give then something else to stamp their feet over rather than get on with their (alleged) day job of securing an independence referendum and convincing enough people to vote for it.

7 days for Auckland an Coromandel.

I was meaning closing the vaccination points. The plan is for them to open up again on Friday. The lockdown for A + C is supposed to be for 4-7 days, so possibly opening up again at the weekend.

Interested to see how The Simps spin this one

That is absolute madness.

If they really think there’s been some genuine benefits then go through the proper channels to develop proper legislation. you can’t retain the right to shut down the entirety of society at the drop of a hat because some people like home working or whatever these benefits are.

Glad that most of what my views are with regards to that article have already been aired by the sane members of this here forum.

I'm genuinely disgusted by the mere suggestion from the Scottish Government. They need to get so far to f**k. It's shit like this why I was sceptical from the outset about all the measures we have seen since March 2020.

Giving any government emergency powers on a permanent basis is inherently a bad idea, and anti-democratic. It's a trick that has been used by the world's worst dictators over and over again in order to draw more power to the state and less to the individual.

There is absolutely no need for it in today's world. An emergency parliamentary session can be called at an instant's notice with people dialling in from around the world. Temporary emergency powers can be voted in almost instantly. This "permanent" move is utterly ridiculous for a modern Western democracy that claims to have liberal values.

Gow Davy isn't worried because they will only use the powers when there is an emergency. That's why they are called Emergency Powers! A lovely look into the mind of a simpleton.

Interesting to see what Gow Davy and his like would say if Boris Johnson made the same announcement tomorrow,

There’s been plenty of howling from the SNP (quite rightly) already at boris’ attempts to circumvent the democratic process, particularly in relation to brexit.

Yet they are now brazenly asking to not have to face any hurdles to decision making on a permanent basis.

They’d be better making the case for why they are still using emergency  powers in the current circumstances.
