To be fair, there's been little or nothing from the Scottish Government or Jason Leitch about the rising cases.

It's almost as if the vaccines are preventing the same sharp increase in hospitalisations and deaths meaning there's absolutely nothing to be concerned about.

  • Those of a nervous disposition better get these on their shopping list...
  • 2,538 new cases of COVID-19 reported
  • 35,999 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results
    • 7.5% of these were positive
  • 10 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive
  • 39 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
  • 324 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
  • 4,065,970 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 3,498,257 have received their second dose

Hospital numbers down. ICU numbers down. Positivity down. **Insert cigar gif**

Almost 34k tests is wild. That must be the highest numbers since early July? I suppose that's the way things go when restrictions ease. Everything else is looking about as good as anyone could've hoped for at this stage.

Don’t give them any ideas!

The sad thing is, there’s many people out there who’d love that. You only need to read any Fb shite page like Ayrshire/Glasgow/Edinburgh live to see that moonhowlers will be in their element about cases going up

It isn’t purely down to testing, as the test positivity has also been creeping up week on week, but that’s easily explained by looser restrictions.

It seems to me that there isn’t anywhere near the same level of focus on or hysteria about the daily figures. I only hear about them if I go out my way to find them. Unless there’s a drastic increase in hospitalisations it gives me hope that scotgov won’t shit themselves again.

Not sure if this has been covered already but the news coming out of Israel isn’t great. Signs that the effectiveness of the vaccines wears off over time. Israel is reintroducing restrictions and giving out third doses of the vaccine to over 50s. It could be an indication that restrictions might have to be reintroduced here before everybody has a third dose of the vaccine.

I said the same thing a few days back, you don't see, hear or read about cases and hospitalisations half as much as you did even a couple of months ago.

With the UK due to start 3rd doses for the elderly and vulnerable from October, I’d be very surprised to see reimposition of any measures.

Worst case scenario we bring the date of 3rd doses forward for those groups.

I'm not so sure. I fully expect Covid jags to be mixed with the flu jags offered this winter, however so long as the initial doses continue to be effective in reducing serious illness, I don't see a need for any restrictions.

The aim, remember, is to reduce the impact of Covid infections on the health service to a similar risk footprint as any other virus. The vaccines, regardless of the number of "cases" amongst vaccinated people, appear to be doing that.

We also have a much higher vaccine coverage than Israel, and used a longer gap between vaccines that (allegedly) offered greater protection from serious disease following the second dose.
