COVID-19 In Scottish Football

When would Aribo be out at AFCON then?

Boxing day games going ahead.

Aribo, Balogun and Bassey.

Basically depends on when Nigeria get KO'd. Last 16 is between the 23rd - 26th January. Quarters are 29th - 30th. Final four play their last game on the 6th.

Also a probability that we'll be missing Roofe (and Celtic missing Carter-Vickers) as there's a CONCACAF international break on those dates too.

You keep pushing this line, but we don't know at all.

Bless the person who still believes that the Scottish Government's circuit breakers will only last two or three weeks.

It's highly likely that Omicron will peak the weekend the fixtures recommence.

Today cases reached 100,000 in the uk  for the first time since mass testing . If you think the Scottish government is budging anytime soon with those kinds of figures to back them up then you are deluded or have been living on the moon the last two years

So if Nigeria make the quarters we are almost certainly missing our best player so far this season? What a joke.

No surprise to see the Angeballers are terrified of him though

Nigeria are in a group with Egypt, the tournament favourites. If Nigeria finish runner up, they play Algeria (probably) in the last 16. There's a decent chance they'd lose that match.

I don't see why moving the Scottish Cup final is a non-starter.

Because that falls under the jurisdiction of the SFA, not the SPFL Premiership clubs. Given that none of the other SPFL leagues got a majority vote in favour of delaying, I don't see how they would vote through a change here. Lower league clubs already have a 3 week wait if they get to the final, why would they want to make that even longer?

f**k it Aribo to win the AFCON with Nigeria and us to beat them anyway.

They know we own them and they can't beat us

Clearly some sort of pro-Celtic conspiracy by the nefarious CAF blazers in Egypt.

How dare they arrange their showcase tournament at a time that doesn't suit a tinpot league in a country they don't even govern.

Given that the same clubs make up the SFA as the SPFL (or at least, any clubs that would be affected by this decision), then I don't really see the distinction between the two as relevant.

None of the other leagues got a vote in favour of delaying because the restrictions won't hurt most of them, and because they didn't have a winter break to bring forward.

I fail to see a significant difference between a three and a four week wait, especially when the delay is justified by getting fans back into the ground - which we were told was the entire purpose of postponing these fixtures.

It's pretty ridiculous to suggest that the Scottish Cup final couldn't have been moved tbh. There's a less than zero chance that if there's a significant COVID outbreak among clubs, that date will still have to move.

End of the day, stating that the postponement was about getting fans back into the ground, then rearranging the fixtures for dates when fans almost certainly won't be in the ground is just classic SPFL under Neil Doncasters leadership (spare me the "he just enacts the wishes of the clubs" stuff - the guy takes an active role in campaigning to persuade clubs). There's absolutely no logic to this.

I have been living on the moon, can't get much sleep with you and your pals howling though.

Thankfully we have nothing to worry about with the Asian World Cup qualification games being played January and February 2022

Always a win win situation here as any outcome was likely to upset one of the OF.
Hopefully there's fans back when we start up again.

One suspects that if the old firm game was being played in front of an empty Parkhead Celtic fans would be complaining about the decision to rob them of home advantage while Rangers fans would be explaining how postponing it was impossible
