My experience of the States is that Americans love to discuss politics with Brits. They love to know what you think.

That has risks anywhere, that's generally fine if you can gauge the person you're talking to. It's normally Ok if you're in California or Vermont or Chicago, not so much Florida.

My preference is to get the conversation on to sport or religion.

I was in a cracker barrel in Florida and this American guy (who was keen to tell me he was 1/6?? Skattish) heard me talking to my son, he wanted to talk politics and didnt get why Scotland was opposed to Brexit and why I wanted independence. Had a decent enough chat with him but I dont think he really had a clue what the EU was etc.

Yep, for a ‘christian’ country they really dont have very strong christian values, well at least they seem very selective with them.
That they dont get these insurance companies make vast sums of money from them that they wouldnt have to pay in a single system is a bit bizarre but hey its America. That said i do love going to visit America, every part of it is pure theatre.

The issue I feel most have with universal healthcare in the US isn't so much the provision of said healthcare, it's the fact that you potentially would be placed on a waiting list for anything not imminently life threatening.

And that there are other people on that list who are 'less deserving' and if they get something worse, jump to the front of the queue. Americans fucking hate that.

More I look at this more it looks like Biden edges it.
Absolutely wild that it's come to this given the last four years. Democrats done their best to throw it away. And in a way they have, because they won't have control of the Senate.
Agreed. But my desire for the woozy 78-year old Biden to stagger over the line has more to do with trying to maintain our NHS than America's immediate future. A Biden administration will be much more of a Brexit reality check for Johnson's government and will hopefully force our own political scarecrows into some sort of realpolitik. You only had to listen to Raab this morning to hear how obsequious the UK is where America is involved.

Don't really understand this take. Biden is every bit in the pocket of the health insurance companies in the US as Trump is, perhaps even more so.

So if there's going to be a US-UK trade deal (and there will be, there's no real gain to Americans not to do it), he's still going to be looking for parts of the NHS in exchange.

I’ve seen Nate Silver write an article about how Trump could still win and now he’s tweeting about how Biden could win or lose a state. This is why he gets the big bucks.

He really is just cope for liberals who had the guns in their mouths at midnight and will kid on they never doubted their man a week from now.

They really don’t, they see universal healthcare as some kind of socialist plot to bring down their country. When you explain the benefits and that it’d cost them less they just won’t accept it. The attitude is generally why should they pay for someone else without understanding that everyone is paying in. Don’t waste your breath debating healthcare or gun control with them, it’s not worth the hostility you’ll receive.

In all fairness, the US Healthcare system was indirectly responsible for Breaking Bad - every cloud, etc.

Their inherent distrust and paranoia towards of the whole concept of government (despite having an almost cult level of fanaticism towards their leaders) plays a big part in their rejection of universal healthcare. They don't want or trust their governments to have control over their healthcare, there's not much point arguing with them about it as we come at it from a completely different starting point. To us it just seems completely bonkers and immoral, where as they (well those to the right anyway) almost have pity on us for not having the same 'freedom' they do and for living in a nanny state. Nutters

If Walter Whyte had been the Democratic nominee I reckon they would have walked it.

Mind you I’m not sure Saul would have done a job with any legal challenges.

Again, nearly  every poll carried out in America over universal healthcare shows a majority in favour of it.  https://www.kff.org/interactive/tracking-public-opinion-on-national-health-plan-interactive/

Go absolutely tonto and create a huge shit storm or throw the toys out the pram and not do any work at all.

Let’s hope so.
