If not Denmark I'd take Germany as first seeds. Utter garbage right now.

Germany will be bad for about six months.  They ken what they're doing.  If anything you'd take England, Maguire and diddies like Stones are rich pickings potentially.  They just lost at home to Denmark too, they're not as good as they think they are, typically enough.

Eh, cause we've been utter shite for the last 20 years.

For the 2014 qualifiers, yes. Everything else we’ve been distinctly average. Greece on the other hand have finished bottom of their group at least once that I know of and haven’t came close to qualifying at all: far worse than us.

Genuinely - are you sure you aren't confusing Greece with someone else?

WC 2010
Greece - qualified (1st in group)
Scotland - 3rd in group

Euro 2012
Greece - qualified (2nd in group - won playoff)
Scotland - 3rd in group

WC 2014
Greece - qualified (2nd in group - won playoff)
Scotland - 4th in group

Euro 2016
Greece - 6th in group
Scotland - 4th in group

WC 2018
Greece - 2nd in group (lost playoff)
Scotland - 3rd in group

Euro 2020
Greece - 3rd in group
Scotland - 3rd in group (won Nations League Division C playoff = qualified)

What? Greece qualified for the 2010 and 2014 WC, they also finished second in their qualifying group behind Belgium for 2018 WC.. What the f**k have we done in last decade.?
Although not part of WC rankings they have absolutely destroyed us in Euros G
Finals performances..

Not sure we are in any position to compare us favourably against Greece.

I think Greece seem worse than they are because of their famous Euros win.  They were doing fine up to the autumn of 2014 when Claudio Ranieri single-handedly tried to destroy them (prior to going to Leicester).  He got punted after they lost to the Faroes, and then they went on a bit of a tailspin for a couple of years.  They won just the one game in Euro 2016 qualifying and finished bottom of their group, but had a great run for 2018, only losing once (to Belgium).  Pumped in the playoff by eventual finalists Croatia.  Bit of a poorer run for 2020.

So all in all, I had them down too as a team having a particularly shite time, but looking at the results...actually not that bad.  Since 2014 we've run a quite similar path.  Mixing between being utter shite and just missing out.

EDIT: Granted, saying "since 2014" is heavily favouring us in terms of the comparison, but seedings don't go back that far, so it's probably about right we're well matched.

Before tomorrows draw for this I've learned some new information. Basically certain teams who are not allowed to draw certain other teams.

Known as prohibited team clashes.

"For example, Armenia and Azerbaijan can't be drawn together because of their ongoing conflict. Nor can Gibraltar and Spain or Russia and Ukraine. Also, Kosovo cannot be paired with Bosnia, Serbia or Russia."

With this in mind it would definitely be beneficial for us to start international level beefs with certain countries.

Namely, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Holland, Croatia, and England. Adding Denmark to that list would exclude every top seeded team.

If we still find were struggling, we start fighting with the second seed teams.

Surely our constant battles with Westminster means we can avoid England?

Mentioned this in another thread.

Gibraltar/Spain remains laughable.

Kosovo/Russia is new this campaign and was news to me. (Is it somehow connected to Serbia?).

EDIT: There is also a lengthy yet fairly arbitrary list of weather/geographic restrictions. Basically someone in Nyon bought a supercomputer so why not use it:

  • Winter venues: A maximum of two teams whose venues are identified as having high or medium risk of severe winter conditions can be placed in each group: Belarus, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Russia, Ukraine.
    • The two "hard winter venues" (Faroe Islands and Iceland) generally cannot host games in March or November, and therefore cannot be drawn together; the others shall play as few home matches as possible in March and November.
  • Excessive travel: A maximum of one pair of teams identified with excessive travel distance in relation to other countries can be placed in each group:
    • Azerbaijan: with Iceland, Gibraltar, Portugal.
    • Iceland: with Armenia, Cyprus, Georgia, Israel.
    • Kazakhstan: with England, France, Gibraltar, Iceland, Malta, Northern Ireland, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Wales. (Andorra and Faroe Islands were also identified with Kazakhstan for excessive travel distance, but the teams were in the same pot for the draw.)

Anyone know when they will start picking the balls?

I'm aware proceedings begin at 5pm but does this mean half hour of horsesh!t before the actual draw begins?

Working until 5 and home for 530...

Most likely not too much guff as it is being done virtually.
