Brian Carrigan
I was listening to the Down the Divisions podcast earlier on with David Gormley and I hadn't realised he is a manager in the railway company that gives a lot of the Dumbarton boys jobs and with the lack of football chat it got me thinking... Anyone know of any interesting jobs anyone in your teams do outside the game?

Anyone know of any interesting jobs anyone in your teams do outside the game? I met David in his day job, he's a really nice guy. Anyway, at the Sons that I know of (and based on the last time I spoke to them): - Ryan McGeever is a student at Edinburgh Uni looking to become a PE teacher - Ruaridh Langan is doing accountancy or something mathsy like that at Strathclyde - Morgyn Neill works for BeeInspired clothing with Steven Robb and Mark Corcoran - Stuart Carswell works on the railways - Denny Johnstone has recently joined the Police - Robert Jones is a tax specialist accountant but now works in investments - Sam Wardrop has started his own business as a fitness and mindset coach, and is also doing a law degree at the Open University - Jaime Wilson works on the railways - Nat Wedderburn is doing a fitness coaching degree at the Open University. He also coaches with the Joe Cardle Academy. - Matthew Reilly is an affiliate of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (whatever that means) and works for Hawthorne Boyle - Chris Smith is in the Police. That's all I know at the Sons at the moment.

bairn88
Some of our team claim to be “footballers” but haven’t seen much evidence of it yet.
Thistle_do_nicely
Emmanuel Panther had some sort of juice bar business (might literally be Juice Bar, ha) but no idea if they're still on the go or if he's involved Willie Kinniburgh left us to join the police too, might have kept playing part time/at lower tiers.

Thistle_do_nicely
oh rory mccallister! not an ex jag but probably one of the more high profile names for this, on a really good part time wage at Peterhead for years and kept his FT job. Sure he turned down multiple full time offers over the years. Think it was plumbing he worked in.

I seem to recall he got into some bother for claiming his juices cured cancer or something like that?

Aye I remember someone like Dundee United tried to sign him but in order to beat his wage from his job (I seem to remember he owned his own plumbing business or something) + his Peterhead wage Utd would have to have made him their all-time highest paid player which seemed to add up because I seem to remember seeing somewhere that Goodwillie was on 60k at Utd. Probably a load of shite but funny nonetheless.
Life on Marrs?
I think i read at the time, utd were only offering him a 1 or 2 year contract, he didn't think it was worth the gamble in the long term. Wonder how many others have stayed part-time as full time sums don't add up?
Thistle_do_nicely
Unless I'm going mad we had some weird arrangement in place with Bryn Halliwell, ex keeper; we released him from his contract at the end of one season on the understanding that he would make his money elsewhere moonlighting during the summer and we then re-signed him for the start of the following pre-season on a gentleman's agreement. Would have been in the 2nd tier at the time too, it might also have just been some sort of cost cutting measure but afaik he was the only player that we did that with. edit: im not sure if thats right reading it through, unless he needed less of a pre-season than the outfield players maybe so it was at his request so he could dabble in something else? idk, won't lose sleep over it Edited February 5, 2021 by Thistle_do_nicely

banditjag
From back in the 90's, (not being a Billy big bollocks here) my dad was pals with stevie Chalmers and his son Paul. I think Paul was p/t at maybe ayr and then stanraer and went to college to gain a management qualification and set himself up in property management which he did in the Briggs area for some years. One day he popped in to tell my parents he was shipping off to sell penthouse flats in Dubai. They lost touch bar Christmas cards but his dad stevie simply used to tell us Paul was "doing okay". Many years later, around the mid to late 00's I was coming home from work on the train and picked up an evening times which had a 2 page spread on how "doing okay" Paul was doing, the headline was scottish multi millionaire property manager in dubai. How understated. Wish they'd kept in touch. Must be the most successful p/timer

Only one David Marsh
From what I know Kristoffer Syvertsen was a student, Martin McNiff works in a bank, Barry Cuddihy is an electrician and Tom Lang was doing modelling ( for some reason I think he was also might have been a fitness instructor) before his move to Dunfermline.
Life on Marrs?
Remember reading in the Sun a few years back, how Frank McKeown, ex Clyde & Stranraer was a Firefighter, the story was about how he'd been out all Friday nightshift at the Clutha disaster, then played the next afternoon!
