Its literally impossible for them to share every single moment doing stuff together and sometimes both just need to chill out from each other and teaching a kid that public transport isnt time for play is a good thing. As long as the kids are either wearing headphones/earphones or their device is on mute. Otherwise they should be arrested. If it's an adult then they should be sentenced to death. Imo.

Doctor Manhattan
29 minutes ago, ICTChris said: I just wonder if kids have changed, if schools have changed. My wife was a primary teacher 30 years ago, my daughter is an early years teacher now, and yes, both have changed. Unless you're a fruit fly, 30 years is too short a period for fundamental alterations at the genetic level, so on the kid front it's almost certainly nurture rather than nature. 29 minutes ago, ICTChris said: Really didn't expect the #discourse to take the turn towards welfare queens tbh. ETA: Aye, think I'll bow out at this point without discussing any actual opinions on possible causes of these changes, good or bad. Life's too short. parsforlife
I have slight reservations about the approach to the article, there's no doubt the numbers have got worse since pre pandemic and there has been parental failures as well as societal ones, however there should at least be a recognition that due to a change in educational approach over the last few decades some of these challenging children would have been expelled, moved to specialist schools or completely written off and not seen to be worthwhile educating.
Miguel Sanchez
Sorry to divert from this morning's hilarity but 4 hours ago, ICTChris said: That Boris Johnson article is really weird. I saw someone say that it reads like he's written it for a different audience - it reads like it's for Americans. Schnorrer is a yiddish word to describe someone as a scrounger - kind of like someone who shows up whenever there's free food. It's not really applicable in the context he gives it, it sounds like he's just wanted to use a Yiddish word for whatever reason. I thinkt he term is more used in the States where those sorts of Jewish cracks have more cultural cut through. "Punk" in the UK generally means someone who listens to punk music, has a mohawk and a leather jacket etc. In the US it can also mean someone who is raped in prison - if you fancy a miserable read google 'Donny The Punk'. I don't think anyone, least of all Daily Mail readers, would appreciate the differences between these usage. "Ball chewing gimp" is bizarre. I grew up in a world where the Tory press and politicians used to campaign to "ban this filth" when people talked about ball chewing gimps, now it;s the headline in a column by a former Tory PM. I prefered the old world to be honest. I've just realised the only place I've ever heard 'schnorrer' before:
Ludo*1
I think P&B was good evidence of how society changed during the pandemic. People went fucking nuts on a daily basis on here. Read over some of the Covid thread when you want to pass a bit of time and you'll note that it just gets more and more unhinged. Then finally, as we were coming out the other side, it was a thread left for the really strange conspiracy driven posters but for a while it was all a lot of people had.

Whilst I don't disagree with the sentiment, the numbers that were excluded from the mainstream education establishments would pale into insignificance with the numbers of kids that have issues nowadays.

I thought one of the strangest takes during Covid were the numerous people that were screaming that restrictions and furlough were ending way too soon. Apparently blind to the fact that numerous people still had to go to work on a daily basis throughout lockdown to ensure life could still go on. Oddly enough in my experience they were some of the people that complained loudest about the delays in the buying of new products like cars etc when we finally came out of lockdown.

My step daughter 's two eldest sons both are autistic and the eldest has ADHD. She was on benefits for a long time. The employers simply didn't exist that could accept her having to go whenever the school phoned to get her to come and calm the lad down. It certainly opened my eyes. Seeing it lived, and the stresses caused. There may be chancers out there, but this post is really poor.

At least before if you stuck a child in front of kids TV it was occasionally educational and wasn’t designed to be like crack for them, but there is basically no control on what you can put on your phone or tablet for them.

You haven't walked in the shoes of those individuals that you have labelled as scum. Many will have been dealt a shit deal in life. I know it's difficult, but please don't be too hasty to judge. A bit of compassion often goes a long way. Try to be kind.

I get that Joe, my MiL was one of the nicest people you could ever know. She had a horrible life because of her scummy family, because she passed on her kindness to her daughter, I am somehow still alive. Believe me, I know.
