At times the referee lacked consistency to the point of incompetence. There was a moment at a free kick that the linesman decided not to stand in line with the defence, but with the free kick taker so was in no position to flag a player off, which he did anyway. The first Celtic goal was onside by a good couple of yards, the second one I didn’t really see the replays. Premier Sports are a terrible provider; they love showing replays whilst stuff actually happens during the games. Why would it have chopped off the first one? Also VAR doesn't go back and reassess free kick decisions that lead to goals. Kyogo was easily a yard onside for the 1st goal and VAR wouldn’t have looked at an innocuous tackle inside Celtics half unless it merited a red card as it isn’t a clear and obvious error however if you can’t defend a free kick taken from inside the other teams half the you deserve to lose. Also if Hanlon hadn’t scudded the ball over from 8 yards when it was almost impossible to miss you wouldn’t be crying about not getting the chance to score from 12. Fratelli Posted December 19, 2021 Share Posted December 19, 2021 (edited) Bit of a side note, but i feel the SPFL have done a half decent job of making the League Cup final feel like a big occasion in recent years. Both today and the one in 2019 (obviously helped by the teams) had a bit of a spectacle feel to them, probably helped by the time of year giving it the feel of a night game and perhaps the TV coverage - Darrell Currie, McCoist, Sutton etc produce something very different to the cup finals i remember on Sportscene in the 2000s. Only negative is the fact it's tucked away on Premier Sports and probably flies under the radar for casual punters as a result.
