Where are you on the political spectrum?

What is good in our society is that there is a very wide range of a political spectrum. What is not so good is that the power lies hugely disproportionately to the right of the mean.

There is many historical reasons for it, but what it does create is a society where until recently there was a feeling that the elites rule. What maybe has changed in the last 5 years is that a greater portion of the population have shifted to the right via Brexit etc, but also because of societal changes. There was a study last year (will find the link if I can) which looked at voting changes in Northern England and tried to look beyond brexit and one of the factors for voting Conservative was the increase in home ownership and desire for increase in house value, which meant people voted more in a capitalist way than generations before. Not sure how much that will continue beyond the current political cycle, but I suppose ot does in a way point to a shifting of the motivations of classes. Arguably the traditional working class has been replaced by a more materialistic group and there is now a new class of people who are left behind relying on food banks etc. Because of all of this, we have become a more imbalanced and unfair society, bit people have lost sight that those in power still hold the rest in contempt and until those in power let their masks slip on this (partygate) and/or people can no longer afford the materialistic things, then it will remain so. People reactions to what Boris and Co got up to were a small wakeup to how little they think of the plebs.

It's like the Roman times whereby the ruling class provided free wine and entertainment to the masses as a way to keep them happy while they live a lavish life inaccessible to the general population.

I think I might try spending 2022 as a Staunch Gammon Tory. Just to try it out, like taking a car for a test drive.

Can't do any harm - there are no elections this year. I can just go about rubbing shoulders with the others. Might be fun to try it out for a while.
