The Queen of the South thread

Be very interesting to see how AJ accommodates McCabe and McKee, one of my biggest criticisms of his transfer dealings is he'll buy good players, and then try fit them into a system rather than having a plan and getting the players in to accommodate it.

I wonder that when I read another posters opinion of McCabe on the Dunfermline thread, they do sound quite similar. However, we do also have Pybus who is a more defensive, workman like player to play alongside either, or both. Pretty sure McKee has played out wide

He absolutely flooded last season's squad with almost identical central midfielders and failed to sign any specialist wide men.  Looks like we are following a similar pattern this year.

Not a bad start on Day 1. Really happy Fitzpatrick has been signed up, as much for the fact we have a natural wide player. palmy_cammy's comments aren't exactly harsh considering that's three CM's signed straight away. If another is signed then AJ is clearly going for the square pegs in round holes approach again. It's not trying to put a downer on a progressive day but surely folk can see why others would be a bit apprehensive just now. If Pybus is used wide again next season he'll be a wasted jersey. If our next signing is another wide player I'll be very happy (as long as that player isn't Paton).

Aidan Fitzpatrick the winger ?

Yes I know he is, I was commenting on the point raised that McCabe and McKee are very similar players.  It was just a casual observation, I wasn't expecting so much backlash!

Overall you have to say it's a good days work.  Fitzpatrick would appear to be the pick of the bunch based on reputation.  With Goss and Shields providing the intrigue as they are relatively unknown quantities.  It would be great to see Goss follow in Lyndon's footsteps.

Buchanan concerns me a bit.  He's at the wrong end of his career and was surplus to requirements at perma-diddies Failkirk which isn't a glowing endorsement.  On the plus side though, we could do with a commanding aerial presence at the back since Brownlie's departure.  A lot will hinge on who we sign to partner him (as well as who we opt to play in goals) as I often feel the partnership can be better than the individual sum of it's parts.  A lot of the things I've seen written about Buchanan would have been said about Brownlie in the past and he has been our best CB in recent times (that maybe says more about our other CBs than Brownlie himself!).

If you're going to play with two or three central midfielders then you need at least four in the squad. Before today we had none, now we have three. I dont see any reason for apprehension

No worries there with this job lot then.
