Rovers_Lad
frustrating type of player,,very seldom goes past a player but thats due to lack of pace,at times contributes little in open play but good a set plays, assists and scores a goal or two

Qos1996
Conroy and Robbie thomson on two year deals. where did you see this? cant see anywhere suggesting they have signed a2 year deal
SUPERSOUTH
Interesting to see if there is a role for Burns next season. I would hope he signs on as is still a good player at this level, and carry out some coaching.Burner signed up mainly as a coach but has reg as a player also.
SUPERSOUTH
Would prefer we didn't sign a goalkeeper who conceded 80 odd goals or one of the defenders who was infront of him.Tough he is a highly thought of young Keeper and he will battle with Jim for the No1 spot.
palmy_cammy
All good news I would suggest. Burns needs no explanation, and I would imagine he is doing some good work with the u20s as well. I see him more as a McKenna type player these days so should the rumours be true about him leaving, Burns should help fill that void comfortably. It wouldn't be fair to make a judgement of Pickard based on the fleeting appearances I have seen him make. He is certainly the most physically developed of the youngsters that have made the step up. Not that physicality alone really indicates anything, but as a central midfielder you need to have a bit of steel about you. From what I've been told Fowler takes a keen interest in the U20s so I'm more than happy to trust his judgement on this one. Hooper has done really well every time I have seen him play. I doubt he will be a starter from the off, but I will be more than happy to see him featuring more regularly than he did last season, and under the tutelage of Dowie and Higgins I'm sure he will develop just fine. I've always liked Conroy both when he was with us, and also when he has played against us since leaving. Not exactly a like for like replacement for Holt, but capable of fulfilling the same roles both as a left-back and a left wing-back. Although Holt had started adding it to his game towards the end, Conroy should offer more of a goal threat. It's long overdue that we had a threat from free-kicks as well. I can't comment on the goalkeeper because I can't say he's particularly stood out for me when playing against us. Although if he was the goalkeeper in Cowden's smash-and-grab win at Palmerston then he certainly contributed towards their victory that day. I'm sure it's incredibly unfair of me but I'm going to say it anyway. Signing a goalkeeper from a lesser team will forever remind me of Barry-John Corr coming from Stranraer, and he that shall not be named who, although he came from Hibs, was signed off the back of his performances for East Fife. I would have liked us to sign a more experienced 'keeper who in addition to being a capable number 1 would be able to pass his experience onto Jim Atkinson. Instead it appears we're going down the route of having two young goalkeepers fighting it out for the number 1 spot. It's a risky strategy, but hopefully one that pays off.

Robbie was the keeper that day. You've got yourself a solid keeper. Good shot stopper, can command his box and has a decent enough kick.
TMT 04
Got yourself a cracking keeper in thommo like won about everything this year at the cowden awards although he conceded alot of goals this season he won us some valuable points with his penalty saves.. Cracking shot stopper an kicking distribution is really good also. Dont no is he is as good as Clark was but still a very good goalkeeper would have loved to have kept him at cowden...
Sloop John B
I'd like to put Cowdenbeath's horrible defensive record more at the feet of the variety of scrubs playing in front of the keeper rather than the keeper himself. He's certainly had a lot to do this year. Conroy, is useful as like Russell, you'll get goals from him which could help to cut some of the slack from the strikers, midfield (Russell aside) didn't score enough for my liking. Rjc-1988
We definitely need to sign a couple of left sided players - not convinced about Conroy however. Dont think he has the pace for left wing back and dont see him as a better option than Russell for left midfield. May be an option at left back. If we have offered him a two year deal i dont understand why stalwart players like Dowie and Higgy only get one year deals. Not fair in my view given the level of consistency that they have delivered. Hope the rumours surrounding Wedderburn are true as I think he has the potential to progress in the game. Dont know enough about the keeper to comment.
NM_1919
One of the boys said it would have been worse if it wasn't for Thomson that day? Was one of the reasons I was slightly apprehensive of his signing but seen you boys rate him pretty highly

Only coo in the village
Thompson is a very good keeper and has the potential to keep on improving. As mentioned we had a horrific goal difference but that was due to terrible defending, a non existent midfield and no attacking threat. Apart from that we had no problems . He will be an asset to a good team who can provide him with some protection. None of the Cowdenbeath support were critical about his performances and he displaced a very good keeper in Flynn. A good signing for you I think.

Good post and I agree with the vast majority of it. On Conroy I think defensively he could be stronger than Holt but wont be as good going forward although I can see him being the set piece specialist who could bring us a few goals. Jim I'm sure will be disappointed but not surprised to see Thompson come in as No1 on the keeper front but he'll just have to stick in and bide his time. Although I don't expect it from Thompson, look what happened last time we brought a keeper in from a team below us!!!
JRS LEFT PEG
Conroy was slow last time he was with us and that wasn't yesterday. Trying now to imagine -six or seven years on - what he is like now.

Conroy would be a woeful signing if the intention is to play him as a wing back or full back. He doesn't tackle and wasn't particularly effective at helping out his full back this season. That's really not his game at all.

It's not that long since he was here, is it? It maybe is. This keeps happening with me these days.
