sparky88
Can see One city/the same multiple cities being designated for both 2026 and 2030.

Given that all these cities are dropping out over cost, it would probably make sense to have it in a city that’s either held the commonwealth games or the Olympics in the past couple of decades and therefore doesn’t need to build new venues. Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast in Australia all fit into that category as do London, Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham in the UK.
HibeeJibee
Every state premier in Australia has ruled-out their territory, although the Gold Coast city authorities claim interest. Unless somebody emerges there - or organisers radically shorten and downsize the event - I remain of the view it's London or bust.

There was talk about 10 years ago of London bidding to host the 2026 games.

Donathan
Are Nigeria not keen anymore? I remember them bidding when Glasgow got it.
Donathan
Sri Lanka another country that has bid for the games recently and South Africa too. Khan and Yousaf have both made noises about hosting so it’ll probably be London 2026 and Glasgow 2030 or vice versa.

The Mayor of Gold Coast is an absolute character and tends to talk a lot. Brisbane is concentrating on the Olympics in 2032 so the QLD government have already said there is no way they'd pay for the Commonwealth Games.

Swarley
They'll hold it in England because they'll be desperate to keep it going. Wonder if they'll start to cut the events, athletes or countries?

HibeeJibee
Birmingham going bankrupt today no doubt ends any lingering hope they can step in... having turned the athletes village into housing and hosting the European Athletics were already barriers. So given Australian and Canadian interest being withdraw having caused the issues to begin with it really does look like being a case of London / some UK wide sharing out - or it's literally bust.

HibeeJibee
Commonwealth Games 2026: Games could be postponed by a year to help find new host - BBC Sport CGF now saying they may delay 2026 to 2027... which will surely clash with world championships, plus Womens WC + Rugby WC?... and/or try 'downsized' games in an Australian state capital.
