You’re on the board, quit whining…there’s 38 of us still in the gates.

@Aim Here, a random question, can you tell the latest first hit for an eventual winner?

In the spreadsheet-era of Dead Pool, all the eventual winners got a hit in January, the latest being the 22nd.

Year Player Pick DoD
2019 Alta-Pete Andrew Fairlie 22nd January
2020 Bishop Briggs Roger Scruton 12th January
2021 Ned Nederlander Floyd Little 1st January
2022 JustOneCornetto Robert Durst 10th January

Thanks, mildly surprising we haven’t had an outlier with at least a February start.

You've probably posted this before on various seasons, but what's the closest we've ever been to a Helicopter Sunday equivalent?

Last year, Pele died on the 29th of December, bumping JustOneCornetto and Indale Winton ahead of Bishop Briggs with 2 days to spare. Pele didn't even get the last gasp bonus that year, either, so there's room for even more brinksmanship.

I'm sure the Bishop took it well

Mark Stewart, singer and founder member of The Pop Group has died aged 62

I loved their experimental album Y which was released 44 years ago this week.

Next to go is John Waddington, guitarist and also founder member of The Pop Group, aged 63

3 rich b*****ds, a well known Frenchman and a business owner…obits coming in soon…imagine the haul for anyone that named the lot of them…

Actually, let’s see…

Hamish Harding was 58…that’s 67 points, plus a 50 point accident bonus, add a solo shot and he’d could be worth 167 by himself.

Shahzada Dawood was 48…that’s 77 + 50 + 50, could be 177.

Sukeman Dawood…but might well not qualify as famous enough…was 19…that’s 106+50+50, could be 206.

Paul-Henri Nargeolet was 77…that’s 48+50+50, could be 148.

Stockton Rush was 61…that’s 64+50+50, could be 164.

So, with “good luck”, someone could have rung up as much as 862 points in one go…

There's only one of these five who was notable enough for a wikpedia page before the incident (Harding). There's pages for two more now, but they were created after the incident (and I'd guess that Wikipedia's editors will probably merge those into the accident's page at some point).

The strategy of picking random nobodies nobody's heard of in the hopes that they not only die, but die in a way that hits the news, would be an interesting one, but generally rather fruitless.

I know, but it’s a fascinating concept. Did get me wondering, surely there’s been at least a double point incident in Deadpool history…someone must have gotten lucky.
