Managerless Plastic Whistle v Raith Rovers nil

There aren't many formations in football that work without some kind of competent holding midfielder tbf.

Might have been less of an issue if we were able to take the game to them, but Akio as a 9 is like playing with a man down.

I agree. Unfortunately, that's just the way it goes sometimes and with our resources we can always end up getting caught out.

Maybe it would've been less of an issue if we didn't have to keep signing strikers due to the ones we have either not being good enough, or being injured more often than not.

That’ll be the hope with a possible ownership change, we need to solidify this teams basis in order to make a real challenge to get promoted and stay promoted for a while. A few more resources and some better off season work perhaps.

Not so much just because of that, as he also liked a smaller squad at Airdrie (yes, they had limited funds). Hopefully we’ll have the funds for next year, but IM certainly likes a (small) consistent team whenever he can have it,

There isn't a single manager that would rather have less options. If we had the money to have a like for like replacement in every position Murray would be rubbing his hands in glee. He said it as a motivational tool, nothing more.

Even with Brown we're an easy touch at times, there is no player with that bit of nastiness that would get the crowd going by wiping a player out or booming (fairly) into a tackle to stop the opposition momentum. Lang and Nolan are easily beaten off the ball too. Poor performance today, letting Tiffoney run the show.

Too easy this. This Brown must be some player 😂😂

We'd still have lost with him (or, at best, drawn 0-0). We've not offered anything like enough going forward. It's not anything new. We really need both wingers and our number 10 to be on form to create chances because we can't ever get anything out of our strikers, but Connolly and Easton have been massively off it today, and McBride isn't good enough.

Brown, however, would've at least ensured that we were making tackles before Thistle got within 18 yards of our goal.

For next season, Murray needs to either find a Brian Graham, or come up with a completely different attacking set up. We can't persist with this lack of input from our lead striker. We must be up to six or seven number 9s this season and none of them have managed to contribute in anything more than flashes.

Just one of those days. Basically no chance of the play offs now. Just win this cup and prepare for next season now.

A win against ICT would also get a monkey off our back for next season.

One for folk who love shouting about "no wantin it enough" and "giein them too much respect".

If you're without your only midfielders who can tackle, your more mercurial forwards have an off day, and you're playing a team that's half decent, you'll get beat. It's okay. You don't need to launch an enquiry or give yourself palpitations.

Murray can take some lessons from it, and ultimately we're at Ibrox next week so we'll get pumped regardless, but as soon as we knew Brown was missing it was clear that today would be an uphill battle.

Adam Smith, big Shaun off the Terrace, boring Brashy and Baillie, David Goodwillie and Val McDermid your boys took one helluva beating!

Well although it was only a very small chance off making the play-offs at the right end of the table it now confirms that it is over now. It is now 9 cup finals left to save ourselves from being dragged into the fight for survival.

Need to hope for investment for next season or else we will be fishing in the same empty barrel for players, but feel Murray needs to look at different formations as this 4-2-3-1 does not work consistently, feel personally we need a more adaptable squad and we need to have more than 1 recognised striker on the park barring injuries etc as feel the supposed 3 supporting players don't work often enough when relying on the sole striker to hold up the ball.

"Raith Rovers nil" have failed to score once in their last 14 games.

Pleased to see that this post aged really well.

That was really comfortable. First half I don’t think we created loads of chances, but we were well on top and second half was a really good performance all round for us. Tiffoney’s pass at the second goal was sensational, and there was absolutely no way that Raith were ever getting back into the game. McAvoy absolutely strolled the game, and him being able to dribble out of defence could be very helpful going forward. Very pleased for Mitchell as well with the penalty save and another very decent save.

Raith have nothing at all up front. Akio completely anonymous, and number 11 - I assume that’s McBride - was utterly inept. I also thought both full back were really poor.

Still don’t see us winning the league, obviously, but if we can solidify ourselves in the playoff places that would be ideal.
