Euro 2024 - Qualification Thread

Poland draw 1-1 with Czech Republic and can't qualify automatically.

With them being at home you'd expect the stadium to be pure poison at FT, but they've gone all Stretford End with an embarrassing amount of 'RL9 <3', 'can I have your shirt?' signs.

Czech Republic v Moldova and Slovenia v Kazakhstan will be straight shoot-outs for 2nd next Monday.

Nobody to blame but themselves - they really should've taken more than a point off Slovakia.

Looking like they'll need to get past two from Georgia, Greece, and Kazakhstan in League C at the moment, which...good luck to them. The two sides directly below them, Iceland and Bosnia, might be taking part in the League B play-offs, which seems bizarre, but that's the Nations League for you.

They really shouldn't be taking more than 1 point from Slovakia, all things considered. The fundamentals haven't actually changed, although Slovakia have simply taken advantage of a very generous group (they'll do nothing next summer).

Getting out of that play-off is probably a 50-50 shot. Kazakhstan (if they don't qualify directly) and Georgia have literally no greater pedigree or experience at the crunch end of a qualification cycle.

Presumably Iceland and Bosnia will have tougher opponents as the downside of competing in a higher leve play-off.

Croatia have a better h2h v Turkey, Wales have a better h2h v Croatia and Turkey have 2-nil head start on their h2h with Wales. If they all finish on 16pts how would that get resolved?

If Croatia, Wales and Turkey all finish on sixteen points, it would go to threeway head-to-head. Wales top on 7 points, Turkey second on 6 points, Croatia miss out on 4.

In the less likely event that Turkey win the group and Croatia, Wales and Armenia all finish level on 13 points, Armenia would qualify on threeway head to head while Croatia and Wales miss out.

Given the latter equation, Wales will be eliminated from automatic qualification today if they lose to Armenia and Croatia beat Latvia in the evening game.

What's the thought process around allowing Israel to continue playing on neutral territory when Russia were (rightly) booted ?

Opening a big can of worms with that question but in simple terms, ours and other Western governments (including those of leading UEFA states) support Israel's invasion of Gaza and don't support Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Armenia take the lead against Wales... pleasing.
