St Johnstone v Ross County - 08/04/23

Recommended Posts

If we don't get something from this I think the chances of us staying up are not good with a resurgent Aberdeen and Hearts away (where our record stinks) coming up.

Heart over head says 2-1 to County though I have absolutely no confidence in saying that.

Must win game for both sides, any "a draws a good result as it keeps our gap over them" thoughts need filed in the bin.

Considine out should signal a change to a back 4, seeing as we have no other left footed CBs, but think we've always played Brown (a one footed right back) at LCB when Considines been out so probably be that.

Sinclair

Brown - Mitchell - Gordon - Montgomery

Wright - Phillips - MacPherson - Wotherspoon

Rudden - May

Is what id want to see. Try and really push on and assert ourselves.

Matthews

Wright - McGowan - Gordon - Brown - Montgomery

Hallberg - Phillips - MacPherson

Rudden - May

Probably what we'll get. A slow start, a conceded goal when Matthews fluffs a cross and White nods in, and a slight upturn when we bring on Wotherspoon and Murphy on. Followed by the manager complaining the players didnt follow his instructions.

Anyone who questions Davidson to be asked what they actually expect and told to stop being unrealistic.

If Davidson loses this, serious questions won't be asked.

Well, they will be by people on here and on Twitter, where we’ll be told “what more do you expect?” by the CD loyalists.

County victory.

Saints don't win at home. Last home win was November

Our home record v County has been poor in general for a while now. Battered them 4-0 in 13/14, then won both games in 14/15, and since then its 2 wins, and 4 losses, in 11 games.

Under Davidson we have 1 win, and 2 goals scored (Middletons goal to secure top 6, Butterfields deflected long range effort), in 4 games.

A win is absolutely needed, a win all but guarantees safety and keeps alive that slimming hope of a top 6.

Let’s be real though it’ll be 3 at the back with someone squeezed in.

My stats or info are always so linear. You've always got the the info that provides some real context! Which is good of course!

I honestly don't know what to expect from this game. We have to win this if we want to stay up, simple as that.

I thought Josh Sims looked lively when he came on against celtic so wouldn't be opposed to him getting a start.

Randall's proving to be a bit of a weak link in our defence as he can't go forward or defend at right back.

I would go:

                                          Laidlaw

                      Smith         Watson            Iacovitti

G. Edwards         Loturi                   Kenneh          Harmon

                                            Sims

                               Brophy          White

This is on the assumption Dhanda is still out btw.

Tbf we should score as it seems like County are absymal for conceding goals away from home.

They also score little.

So a dirge of a 1-0 might be the order of the day.

Not going to lie. Will I leave reasonably pleased if that were the case? Very probably!!

Surely the Saints fans don’t think they’ll be dragged into it? There’s little to no chance we’ll get 8 points between now and the end of the season.

Under this manager anything is possible. We've collapsed since December and it doesn't look like changing. Or if it does it'll be by accident.

Youve to play us twice...

Our, flukey, win over you in Dingwall is the only reason we have more points than you since the World Cup ended. Yer man doesnt get sent off then theres a high chance you win that.

Our last "six pointer" v a side below us saw Killie absolutely batter us and be denied going 2 goals up (an unassailable lead against us) by the ref missing a blatant handball.

We've not won at home since the start of November. We've not kept a clean sheet at home since the end of October.

We'll have neither Andy Considine and Nicky Clark for this game.

If we lose v County, theres every chance we just spiral and collapse, because its happened consistently throughout Davidsons 3 seasons in charge and hes never been able to fully end it without introducing new players (Season 1 we only won 4 of our first 23 games, January saw Middleton come in and score with Melamed also fully introduced/Season 2 we were doomed until Hallberg came in and started setting up Hendry for a goal every week).

I think we could should easily win at least 1 of our remaining 8 matches, but remember we had a 10 game winless run in the league with a team that won the double and was stronger than this one. Callum Davidson cannot break a rut.
