djchapsticks
Well, we always knew it was going to come to this really. Could it ever have been any different? A game with huge importance for both sides for very, very different reasons. Kilmarnock come to Paisley off the back of a heavy defeat but the thankful avoidance of what at one point was looking to be an utter humiliation at the hands of Celtic. McInnes' Killie know how to play St. Mirren. They have picked two points up on the road all season, one of which was against ourselves in a match that anyone who watched would agree that they were the better side over the piece. St. Mirren showed massively encouraging signs at Ibrox which is uncharacteristic before our defence absolutely collapsed in the last 10 which is really, really frustrating as we looked very comfortable in the second half indeed. 3 games ago and knowing the run of fixtures we faced - Livi (H), Hearts (A) and Rangers (A) - everyone would have snatched your hand off for two wins. We realistically felt we could get 3 points, hoped for 4 and couldn't bear getting our hopes up for 6, 7 or 9. Most of us after match 29 at Tannadice, felt we were definitely going to be looking for favours elsewhere by the time this rolled around, so it's nice to actually have it all in our own hands. If we were trying to sneak into 6th, 8 points adrift of the field then I'd definitely be inclined to think that this match held no real significance for us other than prize money. Top six has become a bit of meme for St. Mirren and it honestly wouldn't bother me whether we made it and had nothing to play for in those last 5 games. We'd be essentially playing a set of dead rubbers either side of an imaginary line. With the tightness of the league from 4th-7th though, it's massive for us. At least one of St. Mirren, Hibs and Livingston are going to qualify for Europe by virtue of league position this season and on Saturday, despite there only being 2 points between us and six games to go, one of those dreams will be finished for the season. Dead. Nothing they can do about it. That's why this feels so important. Top six has been hyped up mercilessly by our own supporters and the press for years but that's not a reward in my eyes. The chance (first in my living memory) to see us in European competition is! The fact is though that we've not been good enough in the league for nearly 40 years to even get close to qualifying for European football on merit of a good season. This for all intents and purposes, is likely to be a sell out. Kilmarnock will fill behind the goal with ease and would probably fill the other stand too if there was availability and a bunch of stupid c***s who don't get it will put on their shocked and offended faces on social media and be like 'why couldn't those Killie fans all show up at Rugby Park on Sunday instead of empty seats - those could've went to supporters who want to watch their team' as if they don't know the fucking multitude of reasons by now. Anyway, I digress. 2-1 Saints but it will go to the wire. I'm jittery as f**k and it's not even halfway through Monday. I've not been like this since the Hibs game away when we stayed up in the championship in 2017. Bogbrush1903
I must say, as long as it's not at the expense of the Dons, I'd love to see the Buddies back in Europe. I have vague memories of the beared Tromso keeper, Slavia Prague humbled at Love Street, a rain soaked Brian Gallacher (or is it Gallagher, probably the latter because he's related to Kevin but the Panini album changed his surname spelling each year) scoring a hat-trick in Sweden before the last five minutes collapse against Hammerby in Paisley. I don't have memories of Frank MacDougall being sent-off against St Etennie but I'm sure he had a Euro ban when he joined Aberdeen even though the sending off had been a few years previous. Does anyone know if the Feyenoord games were shown on TV? EDIT: I can't find the home leg but here's the goals from the away leg. djchapsticks
According to the official site, there's approx 600 available tickets left for the home end. Mostly at the ends of the main and west stands.
btb
As I said on the other thread there's a reason we're 16 points ahead of Killie, plus being at home, everything is lined up in our favour in theory. However this is the sorta game where the form book is largely irrelevant and it'll come down to which team performs on the day. I reckon our team spirit is up there with the best, and yet...... It's gonna be a long 5 days till Saturday...... Edit - Where did the Top6 Thread go? Edited April 17, 2023 by btb

deadasdillinger
We'll get pumped. Utterly pumped. Cos we're fucking SHITE and McInnes is a useless c**t. If that helps our good friends at St Mirren secure a top 6 place, then at least something nice has come of it. You're very welcome.

We have also still to score against you this season. This is the kind of "game we should win" that we've failed to win so many times before, hence our inbuilt pessimism.
Div
Ordinarily as a St.Mirren fan you'd look at this scenario, where Saints need a point at home against a team that hasn't won away from home all season and you'd be pretty much certain of what was going to happen. I'm not so sure that is going to be the case this time round though. When we blew top six away at Hamilton a couple of seasons back you could sort of see the fragility of the group of players we had. They showed that fragility in both the semi finals they reached that season too - albeit they did not have the benefit of supporters there to help them deliver. This group feels different to me though. They've shown great resilience for the most part of the season and we've shown up really well these last 3 games when the pressure was fully on. The late collapse at Ibrox doesn't concern me too much. Killie have caused us problems this season and we've yet to score against them let alone beat them, but in front of a full house on Saturday I still trust this group to get us over the line. Knowing us it will still be an incredibly nervy 90 minutes but compared to what we've been through over the years at this time of the season these kinds of nerves are a walk in the park. It's a cup final when all said and done and if we can get the opportunity to push on and finish in the European places would be an absolute dream. Buzzing for Saturday!!
coprolite
I don’t bear St Mirren any particular ill will but it would be quite funny if they fucked it from here. Can’t see it though.
Insaintee
Think we'll do it. I know all the nervy "it's St Mirren," shite. And I know Morton scum McInnes would love to get one over us but we are just much, much better than they are. Killie are the joint lowest scoring team in the league and have the joint worst defence. They look like us under Tommy Craig. (actually worse IMO). I think this will be comfortable and controlled. A no fuss win like the games against Live and Hearts. Killie have nothing a worse team than Dundee when they were up. -
WHU
Don’t think Livingston will win at Dundee U anyway
flyingscot
I'm a little disappointed top 6 it wasn't wrapped up last weekend. I felt we were unlikely to get anything at Ibrox but was hopeful one of the others might not have taken full points, but not surprised both won really. Always will be nervy game as you are 1 VAR batshit call from going from cruising to being in trouble, but it's in our own hands I suppose.

The presence of Johan Cruyff wasn't enough to convince them to send a camera seven miles up the motorway to us.
