Hence the 'Jim McInally-esque' description of your title bids.

In fairness, when the Midlands League started we immediately spent a lot on licensing so obviously that money couldn't be spent on the squad so we always knew those first 2 seasons we might struggle a bit and internal issues didn't help last season either obviously. Not saying we will now just win the league as there is strong opposition that can't be underestimated, but we should at least be able to mount a decent challenge now we can just focus on things on the pitch and not issues off the pitch.

Getting things back on topic if/when there are five of the leading Midlands League clubs licensed (Lochee United, Tayport, Broughty Athletic, North End and Carnoustie Panmure) that should be good for at least three Dundee area clubs entering the HL over the next 5 to 10 seasons if what used to happen in the east superleague is anything to go by.  Strathspey Thistle are likely a definite goner but after that there's at least another ten or so clubs that are one bad season away from the NCL or north superleague (including the nouveau riche former basement dwellers like Rothes and Brora if the money dries up).

I think Strathspey might do better this season, they were improving towards the end of last season after getting a new manager in. He's been recruiting from the North Caley that he knows well having managed at Alness. Tomorrow's game against Forres should be an interesting test, they were poor last season by their standards but have apparently recruited well over the summer.

I'm concerned you could probably add Wick to the candidates for the lower reaches of the HL.

Only game week 1 but seeing wick against BOD today could be a long season for them

They had 9 triallists in their squad today, maybe need more time to bed in a team, BoD are pretty settled and are probably aiming for top 4 if they remember to read their emails.

Wick's weird, Caithness probably have the best amateur summer league clubs in the North and West, and Wick struggle to get players to commit to senior Winter football, especially when the summer leagues are still running.

Nah, BOD will be top 5 so you can’t gauge them on one game.

Fair result against Wick. Gutted to draw after being 2 nil up, Wick could have nicked it in injury time but our keeper pulled off a great save then we went straight up the park and missed a great chance to take all 3 points, 4 points from 6 is a good start, fancy our chances against Clach next week.

Was at Lossie/Forres yesterday. Lossie were completely void of ideas going forward but fairly stodgy at the back. Forres struggled to break them down and got the opener due to a dubious penalty. They then got a second due to a mix up in the Lossie defence and the third came with the last kick of the game as Lossie piled forward. I expect Forres to be lower mid-table with Lossie occupying a bottom 3 place.
