It's too late to bin him. The deadlines for getting on various states' ballots are already expired.

What would be the process if a candidate was forced to withdraw for health reasons at this late stage, default to the VP? It's crazy the Dems let it get this far despite months of terrible polling numbers for Joe.

I think it would have to go to a vote at the National Convention which would likely be something of a free for all. The winner wouldn't be known until August which is surely far too late to build the sort of momentum required to win the election?

Even then, the absolute nobodies who are/were already on the ballot might attempt legal challenges so it would be messy as f**k I'd have thought.

They needed to be rid of him late last year at the very latest. It's Biden or bust now, sadly. (Unless he dies, then Harris by default).

LBJ jacked it in at the end of March/beginning of April.

And how did that election go for the Democrats? In any case that's different as there were already significant rival candidates on the ballot (albeit one of them got shot). I think the deadlines were later then, too.

Pretty decent summary:

Absolutely damning that the best candidates that this supposed world superpower can come up with are these two fucking morons.

America would have probably been better off remaining under British rule.

And our last 5 PM's have been colossus'

Tame compared to the Marco Rubio boy in the bubble and Ted Cruz's dad shot JFK and his wife was an escort stuff from two elections cycles ago. A kinder and gentler brand of US presidential politics is on the go now maybe?

I love Trump. This is why.

Certifiable, Grade A nutter.

Legal analysis of that statement runs Trump into trouble with the supremacy clause. Here’s the angle…

Article VI, U.S. Constitution: “This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land…”

So, “all treaties made…under the authority” would subsume the NATO Treaty.

Article 5, NATO Treaty: “The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all…”

So an attack on any NATO country is an attack on the United States.

Article 3, Section 3, Clause 1, U.S. Constitution: “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.”

So, not responding to an attack on a NATO ally is the same as adhering to an enemy.

Now, to commit treason in the United States, it takes some real work, but the Donald found a way.

What does he actually have to do before leading Republicans in Congress and the Senate develop a spine and point out to voters that he is unfit for office and an alternative candidate must be found ASAP? The scary thing is that they are too scared of the backlash from their voting base to do something like that. The US was formed by white supremacists back in 1776 and has had a very dubious history where race is concerned ever since so maybe it's the imminent end of white voters being the majority of the electorate that is causing this mass psychosis.

I presume this is a convenient way to tell NATO members they'll need to do as their told when Uncle Donnie wants them to help dig up dirt on people he personally doesn't like, unlike those Ukrainian b*****ds he'll be making an example of presently.

The biggest topic of conversation among these folk is "birth rates", so aye. Apparently the hue of people's skin in 2050 is massively important for some reason, and it's quite astonishing to see the mental gymnastics they'll pull off to try making it important, like embracing pseudoscience like eugenics. It's hilarious if you can remain detached enough, but terrifying and deeply depressing otherwise.

Look at the inflection points in U.S. voting/responses:

-Give Black Americans the right to vote, backlash is the Clan, Segregation and Jim Crow

-Give women the right to vote, was effectively a way to boost the White vote, as most would vote as their husband directed.

-Civil Rights Act, led to an electoral split of the Democratic Party, a number of Republican Presidents, and a slow flip flop flip of some minority Party alignments over 40 years plus which resulted in the eventual end of the Democratic House of Representatives (1956-1995).

-Election of Clinton (so-called America’s First Black President), ushered in paranoia, conspiracy theories, increase in gerrymandering and started voter suppression. Also the beginning of a series of Republican Houses.

-Election of Obama (real First Black President), double down on the replacement theory style attacks on Democrats, went all in on voter suppression. Send genuine fear through swatches of rural and redneck America with all the “but it’s the “White House” jokes” that weren’t jokes. First time birth certificates and “eligibility” became a real attack issue, mainly because Barack wasn’t White, with some efforts to attack his middle name too.

America is still a deeply racist society, despite efforts to the contrary. For instance, take the “Most Segregated Hour in America”, (which is reputed to occur on Sunday mornings), the systemically racist response to criminals and police stops, the hysteria about Critical Race Theory (CRT, which isn’t even close to what Republicans portray it as), and the massive disparity in sentencing when corrected for race (which proves CRT). The good news is the newest generation genuinely doesn’t give a f**k about skin tone and the older crowd is starting to die out...the bad news is they are doing it slowly.
