The contact that caused him to go down was after he’d taken the steps. It was a slight touch by the keeper’s elbow, but it was enough IMO.

No it wasn’t because he was quite able to stay on his feet and score, as shown by him staying on his feet for a bit before diving. It was basically an open goal.

And also, contact ≠ foul. Something that seems to be forgotten by far too many once the play enters the box, for some reason

The elbow caught his right foot immediately before he went down. It wasn’t much, but it was enough.

Even Neville and Dean acknowledged that before doubling-down on “he’s gone down in stages”.

Enough to do... what, exactly?

Not only does VAR have too many problems of its own, but it's making referees worse. They can make a shit decision knowing full well the VAR will get the blame if a terrible decision isn't overturned.

Seemed easier to put it in the net, foul or not. With a penalty the goalies back in play.

Ian Wright is spot🤭 on ...

Pretty much exactly the same as saying if one midfielder bursts past another and their shoulders or arms brush against eachother, its a foul and a free kick. Which is 100% isn't.....

The player wasn't fouled. He thought he was, and dived.

He is able to plant both feet on the ground after the contact in a normal fashion, before falling over. It is never a penalty.

It's one of these absurd ones where virtually everyone knows it's a wrong decision but because of the original decision it isn't deemed as 'wrong enough' to be overturned.

He’s right, there’s a large element of footballers who have realised going down in the box is massively beneficial to them, but lack the awareness that it isn’t always,  on the 0.2 even 0.5 chances it may well be the best choice but on a 0.9+ it’s just stupid
