I don't think I've ever been to East Kilbride in my life

If you've been to Glenrothes (so I believe) then you have.

Post war new town rubbish.

I didn't realise you were from East Kilbride.

I can't tell you how sorry I am...

I realised I hadn't included it in my treatise on "identity in the urban western central belt" and edited my post as you were typing this.

Robbie Winters was from EK too and went to my school (I was pally with his brother Davie). Let this be the end of the war between our peoples.

Someone at sometime thought let's build a new town with absolutely no history and no heritage and put a load of roundabouts in it.

With great hamster wheel comes great responsibility

Believe it or not EK was a health resort in the late 19th Century

And it has never needed to steal anyone else's football club unlike other New Towns we could mention.

It just buys leagues...

Most Scottish towns can at least display a blue plaque saying something like William Wallace shit in the woods here 04/10/1302. What can EK claim?

John Hunter, the "father of modern surgery" was born and raised in Long Calderwood. He was pretty important in the development of surgical techniques at a time when surgery was far from scientific.

The book "Knife Man" is an excellent exploration of both his life and the world he inhabited.

Lorraine Kelly shit in the woods here 04/10/1978?

(I have no evidence this is true.)
