I realised I hadn't included it in my treatise on "identity in the urban western central belt" and edited my post as you were typing this. Robbie Winters was from EK too and went to my school (I was pally with his brother Davie). Let this be the end of the war between our peoples.

What can EK claim? John Hunter, the "father of modern surgery" was born and raised in Long Calderwood. He was pretty important in the development of surgical techniques at a time when surgery was far from scientific. The book "Knife Man" is an excellent exploration of both his life and the world he inhabited.
