Pornography watchers "to have faces scanned for age verification"

Broadcasting regulator Ofcom has said that UK citizens wishing to view pornographic websites might have to have their faces scanned to verify they are over the age of 18.  The new Online Safety Bill requires online platforms to protect children from potential harms of viewing adult images, with a number of options suggested.  These include, verifying with a credit card, uploading photographic ID and, potentially, facial verification scans.

Would any P&Bers be prepared to undergo a facial verification scan to view a mucky website?

Will these measures be implemented on the NSFW forum on this website?

How do P&Bers feel the issue of young people and children accessing adult material be dealt with?

It’s just a roundabout way to stop anyone from being anonymous on the web. The only way this works is if any internet connection would require a facial scan before connecting; or if the internet is policed in a hyper Chinese/Russian style with an approved internet that you have to submit to scan to move beyond. It would also end the use of VPN’s, as they would do an end around the requirement, unless the Illuminati world government cabal passes the same regulations.

Seems a pointless exercise, if a UK porn company is worried about OFCOM fining them they can presumably just shift their website to a different domain.

Those dastardly pornmongers, seeking to evade UK law by not being subject to UK law. How dare they!

The Government appears to be working on the basis that they simply won't think of this, or that the vast bulk of sites which are already hosted outside of the UK will voluntarily opt in, which is utterly risible, but completely in keeping with just how clueless this Tory government are.

It's soundbite nonsense designed to pander to lazy parents who also have no idea how technology or the internet functions.

The whole thing stinks, yet again, of politicians with no idea of how the internet actually works trying to regulate the internet.

There is no way any serious country would even propose this, let alone get it through parliament.
