Hard to say how it’ll end up for them not just in Scotland, but the rest of the country. They’ll eventually force the Tories to make a sharp turn right in England and Wales, but in Scotland you have a different dynamic, with a less populist electorate. Can see their rise causing rifts between the Scottish and English Tories too. For ‘the right’ to succeed up here, you’d need something new that appeals to both Tory and Reform voters IMO. I suspect that given the location there could have been a substantial Britnat/Bigot/Bonehead element in the Reform vote.

The fascist parties always do well with a low turnout - their small band of bigots are always motivated to vote. Look at UKIP/Brexit/REFUK's "sensational" European Parliament results, where the headline was that they were the biggest party, but nobody reported that less than 10% of eligible voters cast a vote for them. The best result for them is always that people stay at home. Bit of a shocking result that only 20% of the population bothered to vote, and they could only muster 18% of that vanishingly small turnout. Going to have to work extra hard to whip up enough hate over the next five years for their right-wing alliance to disenfranchise the rest of us.
Leith Green Posted Friday at 08:01 Share Posted Friday at 08:01 Nigel Farage doing exactly as expected - not holding constituency surgeries and ignoring constituents. I have no sympathy with the zoomers who voted for him in Clacton. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/sep/20/clacton-nigel-farage-first-months-as-mp-reform
Salvo Montalbano Posted Friday at 09:44 Share Posted Friday at 09:44 He claimed on LBC that he couldn't for security reasons and that the Speaker and Security Team in Parliament had advised against it. Of course they deny this. Who to believe?
doulikefish Posted Friday at 16:24 Share Posted Friday at 16:24 Its there conference So far Anne Widdecombe has said she is the future ( she is 77) Rupert Lowe went on an anti Vax tirade and 30p Lee blamed Sadiq Khan for everything and ripped up his reminder letter to pay his TV licence

I guess you would side with Hoyle on this one as there is no angle in this to progress has own or Labour's agenda. Oh and because if Farage says something then it is either racist, xenophobic and/or a lie.

CarrbridgeSaintee Posted yesterday at 08:14 Share Posted yesterday at 08:14 (edited) I watched the speeches. Decent on the whole. Lee Anderson knows how to work the crowd, as does Farage. They both did very well. Rupert Lowe came across as a bit of a bellend though. The whole thing seemed very 2014 SNPesque too. The council elections will be a big test for them. Politics are definitely changing as the majority of good, hard working people wake up and that is not just over here. Reform have a brilliant plan (much like the lib dems) to make huge in roads. The council elections next May will see how far they have come. Hopefully they will keep growing and become bigger than the Conservatives, Labour and up here the snp. HibeeJibee Posted yesterday at 13:28 Share Posted yesterday at 13:28 (edited) UKIP/Reform won 1 of 6 EU seats here in 2014/2019 off 10.5%/14.8% of vote; got 7% of vote here in recent UK election; currently poll 9-12% for 2026 Scottish... such could mean 1 (occasionally 2?) list seats in most regions. e.g. LDs+Greens in 2021: Region / list % / list seats Recent polls would see them win 8 or 9 seats. carpetmonster Posted yesterday at 15:05 Share Posted yesterday at 15:05 (edited) I definitely think non-thuggish parties would have a convicted woman beater as an MP and then another one as a guest speaker. ETA - As long as they worked hard at beating said women, of course. It doesn’t matter whether their eyes are black or white.
