Girth
Leaving the cheeks in a two team league and allowing the rest of us to get on with it is a great idea. Thank you.

Alert Mongoose
Have the BBC taken liberties with their naming convention or have the top/bottom six always been called this and I just haven't noticed? Ranaldo Bairn
All of which can be avoided by changing the nonsensical names we have for tiers 2 to 4, which many of us have longed for, nay, demanded over the years.
Eder
Should St Mirren play off with the top club in the bottom half for the Conference League spot? St Mirren should have advantage of a home game but winner takes the last Euro spot. Not for this season obviously but for future seasons it would give the clubs in 7th/8th position somthing to play for.

They've just played off with the clubs in the top half for the Conference League spot. Why would 7th or 8th get a further opportunity that the 6th placed team don't?

I could see an argument for playing the League cup winner (when it isnt one of those 2) but only in a season like this when 5th normally wouldn't be a European place.

Swello
The joy of 7th place is relegating teams or papping them into the playoffs when your team's in no danger and seeing a few wins - that's reward enough. I would argue that doing that can actually be more fun than being in 6th and getting beat every week like Saints did last year and Dundee look like doing this year. Top 6 is only better if you get a European place out of it...
Meeniedee
St mirren have fully deserved a crack at European football next season while whoever finishes 7th hasn't and shouldn't get a one off crack at qualifying for it

I said that to a pal last night after seeing some of the reaction to Dundee's collapse at Ibrox with words like "shameful" being chucked around. With the sort of team we have at the moment landing the plane in the way we did last season is far preferable to taking 7s and 6s off Celtic on trophy day. I'm totally fine with it
VincentGuerin
I think we've already got the European priority the wrong way round. The Scottish Cup winner being guaranteed group stage football ahead of the team that finishes third is a bit much, considering you could win the cup by winning one or two games (or no games) against good opposition. I understand people will say "there's no trophy for third" and it might work out for Hearts one year if we have a shite season and mug someone by winning the cup. But it seems to place the major reward on a few wins rather than quality over the season. I also think it moves the Scottish Cup final a step towards the English Championship "BIG MONEY PLAYOFF", which takes a bit of the shine and focus off the cup for the sake of the cup. Doesn't sit well with me. Giving the League Cup winner a spot ahead of fith is a more reasonable argument, as fifth is essentially mid-table. But it also leaves a lot to chance in terms of putting our best teams into Europe. Am I right in thinking some of this is out of our hands and decided by UEFA? Not sure. Mark Connolly
Why limit the European spot restructuring to just that place? Make the winner of the Premiership play the winner of the Championship, then winner of League 1, then winner of League 2 on consecutive days in a winner-stays-on decider for the Champions League spot. Give the higher Europa League spot to the team whose manager has used the fewest clichés that season. Give the other Europa spot to the team in the pyramid with the longest serving manager Or, alternatively, leave it as it is. The team in 7th didn't do enough to earn a shot at the European places by qualifying for the Top 6, so tough shit.
