And now, Swinney can do another deal with the Greens in order to get legislation passed,(and the Greens can get the SNP to keep plugging away at their 'Equality' agenda). The continuity, continuity candidate.

What have you got against equality? How can that be a bad thing and what's the alternative?

The Greens get a say because they'll do business with the SNP and the others won't. That's how multi-party democracy is supposed to work. Incidentally very little of the Green "agenda" is on equality, their stuff has been about a national care service, just transition for workers in declining industries, rent controls, free bus travel for young people, a new national park, marine protection zones and the bottle deposit scheme. Stuff that good honest local white folks benefit from.

In any case I think your speculation about Sturgeon's involvement is absolute fantasy. There's no evidence for it and plenty against.

No, no really. More sad about the state of Scottish politics, when the Greens can be kicked out of the Cabinet only to effectively return a week later so that they can continue their agenda. And also of the continuing influence of Sturgeon...such is the hatred for Salmond that she can torpedo a deal with Alba and work to get the Greens back in.

You honestly think Scotland would be better off with Ash Regan holding the balance of power?

Exactly the same pattern as the Tories in this parliamentary term...they handed the election of next leader to the members who botched it with Truss, same as the SNP with Yousaf. Next time around they cut the members out (too risky) and put Sunak in, unopposed. Now the SNP cut their members out (in case they plumped for Forbes) and have a Swinney Coronation.

Or... Parties who between them have a majority in a Parliament based proportional representation are getting on with delivering common objectives.

I think it will be fair enough to make comparisons between Holyrood and Westminster party politics when the latter has to operate under a system of PR designed to make it almost impossible for one party to win an overall majority of seats.  Up here some nutters seem to think that a minority government is some kind of aberration, too ignorant or too blinkered to see that the system was designed to force parties to work together. Only one party has so far managed to win a majority of seats, and it's not a unionist one.

At least in Holyrood the new First Minister is appointed following a vote of the  MSPs. At Westminster the leader of the biggest party is invited by a bloke in a funny hat to form a government.

😄 Good grief man, that is the wildest take of the day. Harvie & Sturgeon working behind the scenes to co-ordinate this? Greens back in a position of power after showing their naïvety, petulance and inability to attend least pretend to be grown-ups? Their wings are well and truly clipped. An inspired attempt to connect SNP and Tories, though. 😄

Trying to work out what's the worst take - this or the previous pile of drivelling shit you posted.

No, he doesn't. He's doing what he always does - making a complete and utter roaring arse of it until he fucks off again. Jedi3 coming soon.

Scottish Labour would probably require a level of support from the Greens in any future administration. Looking forward to Jedi4's spin when that happens.

Indeed. Labour, for the most part, supported the recent 'controversial' legislation like GRA and the HCA that are apparently all down to those pesky Greens.

Anyway boo to equality! Up with hate!

Am sad though that Ash Regan has been denied the chance, by Sturgeon and the Green Brigade, to become our very own Liz Truss.

Yes or No on this one then...(and so glad to see the Nats celebrating the return of Green votes to their govt)

Is a Swinney led govt going to achieve the starting negotiations on Independence for Scotland this year? (Following the GE victory he is about to claim)?

Whilst I'm not suggesting that Swinney won't win, you're jumping the gun here, Dr. Jedi.

Swinney has just been on the radio saying that he's presuming nothing, as nominations for SNP leader don't close until Monday.

So you had Humza on the phone to Regan on Sunday night or Monday morning still trying to do a deal to keep him in post. Meanwhile Sturgeon is briefing that he will resign. But she didn't have any influence on that decision.

Patrick Harvie..consistently on record saying that he wouldn't work with a Forbes led govt...but that had no influence in today's events

'Boo to Equality, up with hate'. The only 'hate' around in recent times has been that directed toward a woman who expressed her opposition to some Green policies based on her religious beliefs. Humzas religious beliefs (from a tradition with a similar view on said Green policies) meanwhile were celebrated.

In addition of course, we have a Hate Crimes Bill framed to catch out people who think the Cass Report might be 'scientific'.

But, meanwhile the Greens are back, so raise a toast all round.

No, he said today that the priority will be improving people's lives by effective government to bring more onside with the independence project. Without a clear majority there would be no point

it is what it is, lets see what Swinney does. It wont be easy to unite the party but he or Flynn were probably the only 2 who had a chance of doing that. So you can see the logic in going with Swinney. It feels like a caretaker job but time will tell.

Genuinely, all I’m getting from this is that you think transphobia is just swell. Am I correct?

If I were Kate Forbes I’d likely rationalise that a cabinet position in a government that can function would stand me in better stead for the future than the leadership of one which couldn’t.

I'm a bit surprised that he wants it at all TBH. I figured that he'd realised that being leader of the party was a step too far, considering nobody enjoyed his last tenure in the job, but obviously not.

I dont think he does want it, he just feels obliged to take it, hence the caretaker role. Hes just to get through the next 2 years and hand over. That time it will be a contest probably between a few.
