die hard doonhamer
Massive leap in length of run tonight, both in time and distance. Previous longest was not much over 5k, and 43 mins. Ran for an hour tonight (only 1 minute walking), covered 8.13km. Feeling great. I think a first 10k can be done in the next couple of weeks. Still got over 5 weeks until my organised 10k.

die hard doonhamer
That is great progress mate - well done! Cheers. It's amazing the difference that running with someone else makes, I've progressed a lot quicker than when i was running on my own.
Ross.
Managed to get out on Saturday and Sunday morning, and planning another run after work. Dropped the distance massively and back on the hills for the next wee while. Just short of 5km at the weekend, around the 29 minute mark, but with a 120m total climb. Hoping to slowly build the distance by adding more laps of the route I am doing.

Another massive improvement tonight. 10k, no stopping, hour and 15 mins. Feels brilliant to hit that marker. Now to knock 15 minutes off that time in the next 5 weeks.

die hard doonhamer
Good stuff mate. You are well on course for a sub 60 mins 10k. That's the aim. How would you recommend training for it? I'm generally running 3 times a week at the moment, is it best to have 2 shorter runs and a long one, or 2 longer ones, or all long? I really am a novice at this.

Rossi1990
I'm trying to get back into running again after being away on holiday for a month. Put a bit of weight on, so just trying to ease myself back into a decent training programme. I managed the Edinburgh marathon and was in good shape and didnt have any injuries. But since I have started again, I have been having problems with my left shin getting really tight and also the top of my left foot is really sore when I'm running. I also play basketball and I don't have any problems like this when I'm playing, it only happens when I'm out running. Has anyone got any idea or any tips about this? Once I get started and running again, it will be alright, but it's just trying to get over this initial hurdle.

BishyTON
For the last three weeks I have attended the Nike+ Run Club in Buchanan Street in Glasgow. I seriously recommend joining for everyone in this thread who lives locally. Sessions are every Thursday night at 6.30pm for about an hour and they are totally free. There are normally three different sessions on the go - some kind of sprint training, a 5k and one other. There are runners at every ability level - so no need to be worried if you think you will be too slow. It is a great group if guys and gals and we all support each other. Not only that, but you get free water/coconut water at the end of each run and sometimes grub as well. Finally if you attend ten run clubs then you get a free Nike+ Run Club wicking T-shirt! If anyone wants more info then search for Nike+ Glasgow on Facebook! Or ask on this thread.
