Savage Henry
Cook's clearly one of the best openers. If Root wants to captain, and Cook would rather not, I think they should switch for the next test. Root might bowl himself more often. I suspect he'll bowl less.

Bully Wee Villa
Hopefully it'll be ready. England have an abominable record at The WACA.
Mark Connolly
The series could be over by the time they get to the MCG for the Boxing Day Test.
Bearwithme
Anderson will miss the final Test. Seems Broad could be fit but I'm not sure they'll want to play him with the series already decided.
die hard doonhamer
BBC saying they will go with 3 spinners, Ali, Rashid and Dawson.
Bearwithme
Cheers for that. Obviously the pitch can play a part in the selection. If England do pick 3 spinners it's a cert to be a seamers' pitch! If they are choosing 3 spinners, since they've called up Dawson they might as well give him a go.
dogmc
Still think more work n overs should be put into roots off spin. Would see him as far more dangerous than batty if he was bowling more often.
ajwffc
49-2 after 23 overs
peasy23
Just to underline how good Joe Root is, in 11 Tests against India he has scored a half century in every one. That's an incredible record.India still have a lot to learn about using DRS, Jadeja wants to review anything that hits pad first.
Bearwithme
If there is a concern about Root it is about his rate of conversion of 50s into 100s. Moeen does get a ton and England finish on 284-4.
peasy23
England made it to 477 all out, India 60-0 at the close.
Bearwithme
Decent effort by England, helped by half-centuries for Dawson and Rashid today. I expect India to make a very big score.
peasy23
Decent effort by England, helped by half-centuries for Dawson and Rashid today. I expect India to make a very big score. Good recovery after losing two wickets early on, Rashid will be disappointed with the shot he played that got him out and Broad was a needless run out, although it was a top notch bit of fielding. India looked fairly untroubled this morning, a draw looking favourite for now imo.
jmothecat
India quickly hit 100-0 this morning.
nelsjfc
221-3 now with Kohli gone. England at least keeping this test interesting.
peasy23
Aye, given themselves a chance getting those last two out cheaply.
dogmc
What was he thinking with that shot on 199??
Bearwithme
England stuck to their task quite well but India are in a good position at 391-4. They look like building a handy lead and putting England under pressure, which England have not generally coped well with in this series. The draw is favourite with the bookies but an Indian win looks a decent bet at 11/4. Edited December 18, 2016 by Bearwithme
