He is way down the list of most talented batsmen out there but I will always have time for players who knuckle down and grit out the tough runs. Englands batting has been horrific and often from players with big reputations. Burns has done the job.

There are much bigger names than him that need to be taking a long hard look at their batting.

The bowlers should kick f**k out of them. Should the Aussies retain/win Broad and Stokes have every right to be utterly seething at the top order. And probably also the selectors for persisting with Jason Roy opening, an utter shambles of an idea. This is the beat Broad's bowled in year and Stokes has bowled and at times batted his guts out. There's probably only two batsmen from either side you'd say have performed well, Stokes and Burns for England, Smith (obviously) and Labuschagne for the Aussies.

I honestly can't remember Broad bowling as consistently well through a whole series. Yes he has had ridiculously good spells like the 8-15, but his length in this series has been spot on more often than not.
Benjamin_Nevis
Just now, Tynierose said: Broad has been a revelation. Hasnt dipped at all and if he can do this for another couple of years will be fantastic. I think he just finds that bit extra for the Ashes tbh

Yeah, he gets the 'cheat' treatment down under similar to Smith in England after he didn't walk when he blatantly knicked a delivery from Ashton Agar to first slip in the 2013 Ashes when Australia had no reviews left and the umpires inexplicably missed an obvious wicket.
Sir Tarmo Kink
Spin god Rashid Khan with his 7th wicket and Afghanistan close in on their second ever Test win.
Savage Henry
I’m no gambler, but I reckon you could find some decent odds on England to win the Ashes at this point in proceedings.

When one goes there will probably be a domino effect, If Denly & Roy can keep out the next spells from Hazlewood & Cummins then they might have a chance of escaping with a draw. A bit harsh on Leach but they need to bring Curran in for the Oval, his home ground & will reduce the length of the tail. It is also usually such a pace friendly pitch that Root & Denly can get away with the odd spell alongside 5 pace bowlers.

peasy23
Well aren't I quite the wee jinx.Thought they had played a replay from the first innings, Roy bowled between bat and pad again.Denly dropped two balls later.
Arthur Orton
Roy's technical flaws do him once again. He looks like being another Michael Bevan. No extras yet either.
Sir Tarmo Kink
Roy's technical flaws do him once again. He looks like being another Michael Bevan. No extras yet either.A lot of people rightly point out that Warner ironed out these flaws and became a decent Test player, but there’s also plenty of examples the other way such as Aaron Finch, Yuvraj Singh etc. Even Rohit Sharma (a much better ODI opener than Roy) had to find his place well down the middle order.
DeeTillEhDeh
Roy gone - surprised he lasted as long as he did.Should be nowhere near the team for the Oval.
DeeTillEhDeh
First priority is to get too lunch without losing a wicket - Stokes needs to the same as last test. And Denly needs to stop the idiotic 20-20 shots.
peasy23
Roy gone - surprised he lasted as long as he did.Should be nowhere near the team for the Oval.If England somehow manage to get a draw here there's no way they will drop Roy for the last test. Only change would likely be Overton dropping out again.

Arthur Orton
Well that's the Ashes gone now. Warner was able to adjust but I feel that at 29 Roy is too deeply entrenched to change his technique.
