ddfg
Played against Canada in a preseason friendly and then came on as a sub against Ulster in September
BuddieInDundee
Absolutely brutal to watch, thankfully I was steaming for most of it. Stank of an 'already on the beach' kind of performance, whereas Edinburgh looked like they really had a point to prove.I played against that lad Sam Thomson at school, very average back then but obviously one can't judge a player from when he was 16!
honestly united
Is it wrong to be quite glad that Laidlaw is off with the Lions and not on the Scotland summer tour?
HibeeJibee
Report in today's paper the Celtic countries will force the Italians to shut their current pro teams, then start a single team in Rome... Freed-up place will be given to an American team. Replaces previous idea of 2 North American teams (other from Canada) with 2 pools of 7. Also possible move for USA to replace Italy in 6N. SRU will vote against extending residency qualification but it's expected to pass IRB. Despite previous promises a proposal from England & France is likely to pass ERC removing guaranteed slots for nations in Heineken Cup.
ajwffc
Charles Piutau was named player of the year. Joey Carbery won young player of the year. Ken Owens was named as captain of the dream team. Connacht won the fair play award. Rassie Erasums was coach of the year in the Pro 12 awards. The dream team was selected by a panel of 30 media from Ireland, Italy, Wales and Scotland with players needing to play at least 10 games.

It was designed to be a carve up between English n french. The obvious solution is other nations to pull out leaving it as an Anglo french cup n rest to have an alternate euro cup....course the Welsh would be too craven for that.

You have to admire them though - every time they try to weaken the Pro12 teams, they still end up being shat on. It takes real commitment to keep doing it.
dogmc
Is it wrong to be quite glad that Laidlaw is off with the Lions and not on the Scotland summer tour? Best thing for all involved tbh. I also think given circumstances of Youngs departure laidlaw is right pick as he is strong enough to deal with a difficult situation. It's time to look past that laidlaw now price showed that in 6n and we have plenty of goal kickers
honestly united
Rugby is in some nick behind the scenes given how good the standard has been on the pitch. On the one hand you have the guys at the top trying to be even more elitist, while the smaller guys, who are improving all the time are getting more doors shut in their faces. In much the same way as Georgia are being denied a place a the top table in Europe at international level, At club level this would look like Italy are going to be denied a team in the European Cup (and same could happen to Scotland in future, as it would be a straight top 6 or 7 qualifying), the Russian clubs are being treated dreadfully again. The 2 clubs from Krasnador in Siberia are having to play the final of the Qualifying cup (the 2 fianlists get a place in the 2nd tier tournament next year) in Edinburgh on Finals weekend. However they are being stuck on a back pitch at Murrayfield rather than the main pitch, which was deemed good enough to host 5 matches a few weeks back. Enisei are being made to qualify for Europe next year, even though they won 2 games and had a better record than Bayonne, Pau and Greoble (and that was without being allowed to play any games at home), in the group stages, Pro12, Top14 and Premiership have ring fenced 18 of the 20 spots in the Challenge Cup and only give 2 spots to teams from other countries and that doesn't look like changing anytime soon. Unless we start opening up the competions to other countries and leagues the game is never going to progress. Until World Rugby and Rugby Europe manage to wrestle the power from The 6 nations, the Championship, the EPCR and Super Rugby then we are going to be in the same Elitist situation for years to come. Totally agree. There are huge opportunities to grow the game both in Europe n globally but the self preservation instinct of tier 1 nations has to be addressed urgently.

Well deserved for Laidlaw despite the very difficult circumstances

Savage Henry
More of the same, I guess. The full back position looks weak sans Hogg - interesting to see Jackson listed there rather than stand-off.
honestly united
Jackson in as Fullback cover (im expecting Maitland to start there), and no Gilchrist is the only suprises for me. Played it fairly safe by the looks of it

The Pro12 is a funny one, on the one hand they have had discussions with US, Canada, Spain and Georgia about expansion and adding teams on the other they are telling Italy they are wanting to take a team off them and deny them becoming a full partner in the league!
dogmc
Pretty happy with the squad....good to see harley n Jackson back in there. Slightly surprised no Jon Welsh but otherwise pretty much bang on.

come on shire
Oz game has a 5am k/o UK time. No announcements on Italy and Fiji k/o's. Does anyone know what time the World Cup draw is at in the UK? Thinking it might be very early as it's in Kyoto.
