John Lambies Doos
With Italy getting gubbed again today, they’ve now given up a try bonus point in 8 of their 9 games since the bonus points were introduced. Only Wales last year failed to put 4 tries past them. The talk of a relegation system isn’t going away. Personally I’d prefer to just go back to five nations but also introduce a European Championship with 8-10 teams every two years. Italy add no value to the tournament in their present state. Can we have this conversation after next Saturday

John Lambies Doos
Bit torn for next wk tbh, even although I'm half Irish I can't fucking stand their rugby team but a win against England, assuming we beat Italy means 3 place finish. Even better if France beat Wales we still finish 3rd but above both England and Gatlands wales

John Lambies Doos
Can we finish second? I think I preferred this before the bonus points came in.Nope. 3rd is best we can finish, 5th is worst. If England beat Ireland it will probably be 4th.

Think that would mean Scotland would finish 2nd or 3rd and England 5th. Inverdale would dissolve live on tv.

We can't finish above Ireland obviously so finishing above Wales and England would be great. Don't mind the French finishing above us. Good c***s

come on shire
Disappointing to lose on Saturday but was always going to be tough vs a good Ireland team with such a brilliant home record. However we're doing the same at Murrayfield which is a positive so if we can win in Rome (preferably with a BP) then hopefully we can finish as high up the table as possible. However it was nice that the U20's and Ladies won with the 7's picking up silverware this weekend at least. As I type this I'm at Edinburgh airport ready tor the flight to Rome lol.

I suppose they add a match with ticket income, TV rights and so on, plus a jolly to Rome every 2 years. I'd have a system where the team bottom in a 2-year aggregated table (i.e. having played everyone home/away) has playoff against the equivalent 2-year leader of the Nations Cup. Doubt they'd go for automatic relegation. Give chance to Romania, Georgia, Portugal, Spain, Russia etc.

I agree that the promotion relegation should be every 2 years to give everyone a fair home and away balance. You could even go to 7 teams, in the same space as we have now, but everyone gets a week off. The main issue is the TV deal, as you would only be able to set it for 2 years - or longer but with break clause if you get relegated, so no guaranteed income

If the PRO 14 countries have their week off then the pro teams will likely be near full strength minus the odd superstar for that respective week. I would love to see a promotion relegation playoff between bottom 6 nations and top of rugby championship and I wanted this ten year ago when Scotland were shite. Another solution could be having a ten or 12 team, between world cup years, northern Hemisphere competition. 6 nations teams throwing in Georgia, Romania, USA, Canada, Japan and maybe Russia. I realise England v Russia is just a waste of time for England but for Russia and the likes its how they grow the sport. These countries will target the 6 nations countries for upsets. You don't have to get rid of the 6 nations as such but there is a staleness there because its the 5 nations and Italy, and has been pretty much since 2000.
