Mark Connolly
Fantastic win in Montpellier for Glasgow. 15-13, with Montpellier getting a penalty try in the 5th minute of overtime to sneak a BP.
HibeeJibee
Meanwhile in Rugby League - it finished Ireland 4-25 Scotland and France 42-22 Wales. So, given the tiebreaker is apparently points difference, Scotland v France in Galashiels on Friday is effectively the title decider and Scotland can afford to draw or even lose by upto 17pts* and still win the European Cup and also qualify to join England, Australia & New Zealand in the next Four Nations. (*Unless Ireland absolutely demolished Wales in Wrexham, winning a 3-way tie). Edited October 26, 2014 by HibeeJibee

peasy23
Al Kellock has been named as Captain of the Barbarians side to face Australia tomorrow. He's the first Scot to skipper them since Scott Hastings in 1993.
ajwffc
Glasgow won 17-9 v Treviso and Edinburgh lost 33-8 away to Leinster. Scotland lost 22-38 v France but will still win if Ireland win by less than 41
HibeeJibee
Scotland 22-38 France Astonishing !! Scotland scored a simple try in the first 2mins and everyone thought "ah, here we go, easy"... France then dominated the rest of the half and scored 38 without reply. Crowd and players shell shocked. Missed tackles, dropped balls, sloppy passes. No scoring first 20mins of the 2nd half, but it seemed the French were settling for seeing it out. Big mistake. Great solo try then another pair in the dying minutes and Scotland scraped it. Scenes very much, like victory despite defeat. But nevertheless, Ireland's result awaited.
Eednud
NZ beat Samoa 14-12 in Four Nations. Samoa were unlucky not to hold out for the win as NZ scored winning try in last 4 minutes.
peasy23
Al Kellock has been named as Captain of the Barbarians side to face Australia tomorrow. He's the first Scot to skipper them since Scott Hastings in 1993. Kellock was superb yesterday as the Barbarians ran the Aussie XV close. The Barabarians laid a marker down with their first line out, which was a 40 yard quarterback pass infield. In the usual tradition, the Barbarians players chose their own socks. A touch of class by Kellock with his choice of one sock from Glasgow Warriors, and the other from Allan Glens RFC, the Bishopbriggc club where he first played.

Mark Connolly
Scotland have mucked this up. Ireland romping it against wales Ireland win 46-14, so Scotland win the title by a bawhair. Why are oz rugby league wearing claret and blue? It was apparently to celebrate the centenary of the Rorke's Drift Test in 1914, when GB beat Australia despite finishing with 10 men. Those were the Aussie colours in those days.

Cause they got bent over and completely horsed in this tournament
garybs
The english aren't taking the decision in the game against Australia well at all. Shame Edited November 2, 2014 by garybs
HibeeJibee
As I understand it, Welsh rugby league has fallen to pieces recently... Traditionally they were strong. Finished 3rd on their RLWC debut in 1975, ahead of NZ & France, and were the "4th Semi-Finalist" in both 1995 and 2000. We beat then 37-32 in playoff to qualify for RLWC 2008 but they were back in good form in 2010 winning the European Cup - I saw them gub us at Glasgow Hawks - and qualified for the Four Nations although they were badly outclassed. But, terrible RLWC last year - 3 defeats including v Cook Islands!! - and now this shambles. You could also look at France... traditionally they were the "4th power" in world rugby league (they reached the RLWC Final in 1960; and were invited into the inaugural Four Nations) even surpassing NZ during some periods. Both were the traditional Europe 'powerhouses': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_League_European_Cup#Past_tournaments Apparently the Irish were one score from qualifying at one point. We've had some luck, but a great achievement, and great opportunity for Scottish rugby league. peasy23
The english aren't taking the decision in the game against Australia well at all. Shame Watched the highlights earlier, it doesn't even look like he touches the ball at full speed. Even in slow motion it barely brushes his finger, it's stretching it a bit to say he applied any downward pressure on the ball. No try for me. To quote from the laws of RL To score a try, the ball must be placed with controlled downward pressure on the goal (also called the try line) or in the in goal area between the goal line and the dead ball line using the hand or forearm.

Absolutely agree there was no proper downward pressure on the ball so it wasn't a try for me either
Swarley
Samoa gave England and NZ real scares and I've a sneaky suspicion they'll actually beat Australia.
HibeeJibee
Cheers.... Sure we will take it anyway.. nice wee achievement Certainly. Afterall, how often does a Scottish national team win a continental trophy. If the sport of rugby league it to establish itself in Scotland to any degree it'll only be via the national team - in much the way cricket has tried to. And there won't be many better chances than reaching QF of a World Cup held in the British Isles; winning the European Cup (just unfortunate it couldn't have been won outright on home soil on Friday); then participating in a Four Nations held in the British Isles.
