Charlton Athletic 2-3 Northampton Town, League One

A funny night with the home side a goal down in 5 minutes, after a simple ball over the top. Fans chanting 'sack him now or we're going down' immediately after.

A 19th minute equaliser preceded a 21st minute response from Northampton. The goals were basically identical, including away players scoring them.

Charlton equalised right on half time, but then lost the game in the 96th of 96 minutes. Ouch.

Had to look up their no. 30 after the game...he was Charlton's playmaker but he was absolutely gash.

The game lacked quality but was entertaining enough with 5 goals, a red card and what looked a clear pen denied with the Northampton boy booked (at 2-2 and with a man advantage).

£26 for a ticket makes our Premiership look great value for a similar price.

Blyth deserved a goal, Scarborough wasted three breakaways. Not a bad game despite a heavy pitch. Crowd was 800.

Boreham Wood 4-4 Eastleigh in the National League, attendance of 704.

Madness. Eastleigh 2-0 up at half time in a nothing match with two tidy goals, only to end up 3-2 down within 15 minutes of the second half...and that included a saved pen for the home team (dodgy photo below)!

Eastleigh fought back to take the lead in 88 minutes, only to concede a very soft penalty and equaliser five minutes into stoppage time.

Those that have been there before, Ainsley park? Best place to get parked there on Saturday? Says at the leisure centre, but that can be busy. Any alternatives?

There's no parking restrictions in the streets round about on a Saturday - if you don't mind a five minute walk then park in East Fettes Avenue.

If you do mind a five minute walk you're a fat git... .:P

Looking at going to a game in London, or nearby, on 8th of March.

Arsenal, QPR, Millwall, Watford, Charlton, Reading and Stevenage all scheduled at home.

Charlton seems the best in terms of ticket likelihood, but bizarrely looks like the longest journey out of all of them from Central London?

Macenta Schools final. Macenta, Guinea.

College OK vs B-sector FC

College wearing pink and white, whilst B-Sector wore Manchester United green away tops (their women's team wear home).

Missed most of this but caught the penalty shoot out which lasted forever due to poor shots rather than any attempt at goalkeeping on the hard dirt of the literal ground.

Probably about 2,000 in attendance with the commentary hooked up to the tannoy. Good times had by all.

Excuse the photos, shite camera, far away, and clouds of dust from the dirt.

Arsenal or Millwall - both in terms of easiness to get to and as a football experience.

However, Arsenal tickets won’t come cheap, if you can get them at all. I went to Millwall not long before Covid, and tickets were no problem to buy. The Den is authentic, raw, rough around the edges, and I loved it.

At New Moor Road to see Linton Hotspur v Storm Isha. Frantic start to the game, Isha went off like a rocket, but is running out of puff now.

Loads of storm damage here, pretty blowy last Sunday night in these parts. Fence behind goal torn out of the ground, floodlight on training pitch blown over and a couple of sheds and trees down in the field next door. Wild!

Isha have now subbed on the full Fulshie XI who have promptly taken a 1-0 HT lead.

Game is “ok”, Hotspur are more competitive than last time I saw them.

EDIT - finished 4-0 to Stoneyburn. On the upside I got home at 4:05pm and I now don’t quite know what to do with all of this time I have on my hands now! Usually I’d count 7pm as a win of a Saturday!

Lochar Thistle 3-1 Stranraer Reserves

South of Scotland League for us today and a run to Dumfries, specifically Heathhall, for Lochar v Stranraer.

Despite familial ties to the area we've not been to a huge amount of football in the South League, a mixture of very basic facilities and so much choice in the East and West provides easier alternatives.

Wilson Park is situated just along from the excellent Aviation museum. At first glance it resembles a bowling green with the hedge round the edge but through a gate reveals an excellent facility, grass park, raised vantage points and even a wee bit of cover under the pavilion. What's not to like?

This is technically a four tier promotion for us since last week at Carluke but there is no vast improvement. If the South should be part of the West is a debate for another time. Increasing the Geography to go as far North and East as Cumbernauld when Sanquhar to Stranraer is already a regional League may not be practical. Given there was a crowd of around 30 here paying £4 each, Lochar aren't exactly swimming in it.

The game itself was a spectacle rather than spectacular but Lochar had the lead at the break despite a missed penalty. The main talking point being a challenge from Stranraer's athleticly challenged midfielder who appeared to go over the ball with no malicious intent and was yellow carded. Who'd be a referee?

Lochar are higher in the table and their second half performance showed why. Despite Stranraer levelling the hosts score twice, hit the post and the visiting keeper pulls off some excellent saves before being replaced.

The South is always going to struggle to attract quality. Same with the North Cally. A League centered round Dumfries doesn't have the quality of the East and West as there's nothing like the population. An excellent afternoon's entertainment was had, go and visit the lovely folk of Locharbriggs and Heathhall if you're in the area.

Western Lge Div 1 : Keynsham Town 1 Warminster 1 att 112. Wasteful visitors inc a pen that flew way over the bar ( after a handball on the line - straight red) Two young sides, limited number of players around the Bath area. Plenty of effort, lack of a striker for both sides very clear.20240127_144451.thumb.jpg.c4c333814b7c2d1b83e73eedee9f84ba.jpg

The Spartans 1 Clyde 1. Att 531.

Fair to say this won’t go down as a classic, with defences on top and more of a midfield battle for the majority. Jordan Allan had the chance to give Clyde the lead with less than a minute on the clock. A through ball seemed to split The Spartans defence and he found himself one on one with the keeper, but the keeper pulled off a good save. A similar ball seen Allan give Clyde the lead as this time he deftly flicked the ball past an onrushing keeper.
Spartans equaliser was a really good goal, the ball was switched from right to left, it looked like the ball was coming out of play towards us, but the ball was taking out of the air with one touch, flicked on and then crossed for Armstrong to fire the ball home from the edge of the 18 yard box, with their only shot on target. Not a bad view, got a programme and the choice of food is good. I like watching football at these type of stadiums, where you are right down the front and the action at points is right infront of you. Don’t usually compliment the refs, but he seemed to handle the game really well and even when pulling players back for stealing yards at throw ins, he wasn’t overly authoritarian about it.
