  1. Bob Dylan - One Of Us Must Know For ICTJohn and anyone else interested John Mayall was excellent on Monday. Played numbers from way back from the " Beano " album right up to present day. He played pretty much 2 hours non stop which for an 80 year old guy is pretty amazing. Mind you he did say he gave up the booze 30 years ago. A step too far imo ! The band , from Texas and Chicago were of the high standard you would expect from a Mayall band. The lead guitarist of support bans King King who is from Glasgow joined Mayall on set for the final 20 minutes. I guess in years to come just as Mayall can talk about playing with Howlin Wolf, T Bone Walker etc. Gary Nimmo will be able to say " I played with John Mayall "

  2. Nail. Head. Hit. These pathetic clowns have been riding this one for so long that it's become beyond boring. Anyone who cares to find the original post, and can comprehend simple written English, will see that its meaning was a comment on the ridiculous idea that cancer, especially in public figures, can transform personalities. Personal experience allows me to have the informed opinion that this theory is bollocks. I'd go so far as to say that the rangers fans on here, by using their "hero" for petty point scoring, are being far more disrespectful than I ever was. As with their ill,-informed strops over that statue, I really shouldn't be surprised...

  3. 2 and a half years and over 6,000 pages in and we still have fantasists claiming that Rangers were in a decent financial state before Craig Whyte's takeover for £1 (Yes, £1!). Throughout this thread these claims have been debunked time and time again yet the usual suspects keep coming back with the exact same 'evidence' to 'prove' that they are correct. Youngsy's magical £18million bank debt being comparable to £53million total liabilities being a favourite of mine, trotted out repeatedly even though he has been told his comparison is utter bollocks again and again. Anyway, to show how brilliant a state Ranger's accounts (© Tedi) were in to June 2010 I have calculated Altman's Z'-score. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altman_Z-score#Z-score_estimated_for_private_firms To sum up it is a test on the likelihood of bankruptcy within the next two years. You put figures from the accounts into a formula and depending on the result you can decide if a company is going tits up or not. I got taught this in advanced finance so it isn't some pie in the sky theory, it is derived through genuine statistically based analysis and used in the finance industry. Having done the calculation Ranger's score at 30th June 2010 was 0.91. Anything below 1.23 is a firm in distress, between 1.23 and 2.9 is a grey area, and above 2.9 the company is safe. So accordingly Rangers were a basket case before Craig Whyte took over. I apologise in advance for actually using some knowledge of finance and expect irrelevant (in isolation), cherry picked numbers to be plucked out of the accounts in reply.

  5. Again Bennett, I have to point out that Rangers weren't "hammered". They were treated just the same as any other club that liquidated was - if anything, they were given preferential treatment and crammed right into the bottom tier. It's true that the authorities were working on a way of sliming Rangers into the old first division, out of financial self-interest. This - deliberately turning a blind eye to the rules for personal financial gain - is called "corruption". Remember, you don't like corruption, so I assume you wanted the rules enforced. I do remember that many of your fellow supporters have been angry about that plan, when it's suited them to be angry about it. Nor were Rangers liquidated because they were "the victims of fraud". They were liquidated because their finances were so precarious that a single season without European football was enough to force them into close the doors. Rangers aren't dead because of "fraud", although I'm aware that this is today's excuse. Rangers are dead because they spent fvck-tons of money, then found that they couldn't pay their employees.

  7. Obviously don't think I'm good enough to blog about this stuff, but thought I would start a wee thread for anyone interested in Czech football, in particular the domestic league. I'll also be writing a wee bit about the fortunes of the Czech national side. Gives me something to do and might also give some folk an idea of the level of the game in far-flung central Europe. Many of my posts will be about Zbrojovka Brno, my local club playing in the Synot Liga, the top level of Czech football. Saturday night sees an interesting game against the hated Sparta Prague, and I'll definitely be trying to cover that. I'd also recommend @Synotliga_EN on twitter which does English-language updates of games. ---- Due to the international break, which was fruitful for the Czech national side with wins over Turkey and Kazakhstan, there was no top league football this weekend. I therefore took the opportunity to travel across the city to take in SK Líšeň against Prostějov in the Moravian-Silesian Football League, the third tier of Czech football alongside the Bohemian Football League. At the end of the season, one team from each gets promoted to the II Liga, the equivalent of the Championship over here. The start of the day saw Líšeň, who by some distance are the "second team" in Brno behind Zbrojovka, lying third-bottom of the league with 7 points from 10 matches, facing a strong Prostějov side, featuring several players with higher level experience, second on goal difference. A half-decent crowd of around 400 saw the encounter. Unfortunately for the home team, they were thoroughly outclassed by a strong visiting side who never looked like giving up their lead, which came on the 9th minute as a nice through-ball resulted in a neat top-corner finish for Lukáš Zelenka, who gave Líšeň problems all afternoon. A defensive error gave Zelenka his second around the 20th minute mark, where a nothing ball was failed to be taken care of by a haphazard-looking defence, allowing the dynamic midfielder to slip in and poke the ball past Bureš into the net. The only significant chance by Líšeň arrived on the half-hour mark, a quickly taken throw was then drilled into the box by David Krška, yet from only a few yards out Jan Sedlák's shot was high and a yard wide of the goal. The chance to seal the encounter, and Zelenka's hat-trick, came minutes later, but the one-on-one was dealt with well by Bureš, forcing an early shot which went wide of the keeper's right hand post. After several reasonably-priced pints provided by the pitchside bar, the second half was a relatively meaningless affair, with the home team coming into the match a lot further, without creating any clear-cut chances and any real threat of scoring. Prostějov, perhaps sensing this, took their feet off the gas and endeavoured to keep as much possession as possible. Their third, perhaps undeserved given the nature of the half, goal, arrived in the 92nd minute. Líšeň, who after for the last ten minutes bizarrely chose to open themselves up to get a goal (why they din't attempt this earlier is a puzzler) failed to deal with a quick break from the visitors on the right flank, leading to a cross which the unmarked Karel Kroupa calmly lifted over the keeper. 3-0 will of course be disappointing to the home team, but perhaps not as much as the manner in which the team played. This being my first time watching Líšeň this season, I can't comment on if this is how the side have been playing in general, but eight losses from eleven is poor form. They will no doubt hope to get something out of Saturday's game away to FC Hlučín, currently 6th of 16 in the table. Highlights of the match are available on youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05zc_nmbD48#t=350 Hopefully things can turn around this year for struggling Líšeň, who maintain a nice ground in a leafy part of Brno and are very much a club grounded in the community. A lot of work is necessary if they are to repeat their claim to fame, a memorable run in the Czech Cup 2007-2008 where their defeat of Slavia Prague 4-3 is still one of the greatest upsets in Czech football of the last few decades. If I have time before Saturday, I'll post a preview to the Zbrojovka-Sparta game, as well as other games to look out for in the Synot Liga. If there are any questions I'll try my best to answer them, hope you enjoyed reading and would appreciate comments. Cheers!

  8. Don't be daft Bennett. There were of course plenty of good examples of aggressive, petulant, stupid behaviour from Rangers fans during this elongated episode, but the very best was the attack on the BBC for blowing a whistle on the guy you now all want behind bars. Fans of other clubs objected to one club being treated blatantly in ways that others certainly wouldn't be. Of course, you know this.

  12. I think Rangers were indeed something of a basket case before Whyte came aboard. That's why the bank had seized a chunk of control. I think it's possible that admin may have happened at some point anyway, especially given that McCoist was by then in place. I don't think it would have happened when it did however, and I do think that any later admin could have been emerged from and liquidation avoided. I would also admit that Whyte would never have got anywhere near the club, were it not for the hovering BTC. However, for me, this just makes it better. The EBT scheme was immoral and it's entirely fitting that it's what brought a shit like Whyte into the picture. Rangers have been the victim of crooked behaviour and I doubt if their fans could have done much to prevent it. If they hadn't behaved, in the main, like such stupid, petulant, aggressive children, they'd deserve some sympathy.

  13. Quite enjoying these assertions that pre-death Rangers were viable as a business TBH. You'd think that any business that would have no choice at all but to shut its doors and liquidate if it missed out on just one massive, highly contingent cash injection - European football, say - would be classed in the very highest of high-risk categories. A business that's utterly reliant on what can amount to rolling a dice isn't really a viable business at all, and we know that potential investors agreed with this assessment, because the best deal offered for it was a payment of... £1. I say this knowing full well that there's always the ripe old dodge about how HMRC were mean to Rangers, and boo hoo hoo no' our fault. That excuse only works if you assume that HMRC shouldn't investigate businesses that operate highly exotic tax-dodging schemes then spend years point-blank refusing to allow HMRC to audit them. In other words, Rangers were a viable business pre-liquidation, but only if you're determined to ignore the fact that they were so obviously not a viable business that they were liquidated at the first sign of trouble. Still, never mind. At least some of their fans are now complaining about their own club's former directors, rather than blaming practically everyone else who has ever laid eyes on a Scottish football stadium. This is progress, of a kind.

  22. A boy on the phone in the other night said there were 18 people on the Rangers bench at Dumbarton...18!!! McCoist.. Durrant. Kenny Clipboard Jimmy Bell..to make sure the players coming off get their arms in the right sleeves of their jackets Physio. Doctor. The 2 fannies that are supposed to do the warming up before the game and at half time as The manager and his 2 assts. couldn't possibly be expected to do that on the pittance of pay they get. 7 players. Jim Stewart....and 2 others who nobody knew who they were. That is bad enough in The Championship but we have had these hangers on since the 4th tier of Scottish football. If Ashleys men wanted to cut costs ..really cut costs they would chase the cheeky chappy and his mates all the way down PRW!! If the office staff etc have to go that is fair enough. We need to cut costs and do it now but they need to start with the ones guilty of stealing wages. Jimmy Bell , at least one of the fitness coaches and at least one of the Asst Managers.

I am pleased you are so seething and lashing out at the world, it reinforces my opinion and that of many others that any pain, any hurt, any suffering you might have been caused is not only totally justified, but richly deserved. 32. Whilst I hope Whyte and his pals get some jail time, my condemnation of this massive fraud and the people who made it possible is balanced by the fact that most Ragers fans seem perfectly content and indeed proud of the biggest disgrace in Scottish football. Decades of defrauding the game from the Discount Option Scheme to EBT's, some of the highest earning people in the country not paying any tax, resulting in what amounted to an enormous and unconscionable theft from the public purse. No such bile and spite for this crime, oh-no "it's we turned over ra taxman and were found innocent". Excuse me if I find sympathy hard to come by for folk who don't mind stealing from the entire country but get right up on their high-horse when it's just their own clumpany who are ra victims. And don't forget if you ever want to know what a support should have done in the face of over-whelming financial difficulties, have a wee look at Hearts. It must really rip your knitting to see a club who were in, in many ways, even worse financial trouble that deadclub, doing so well and putting out such a positive message. Jealousy is a stinky cologne bears and I know it must be hard to look at yourselves (gies me the bauk too) but perhaps if you had tried, just put in a smidgen of effort beyond threatening clowns and wanting to burn down Starks Park, things could be very different.

  33. I like this idea that the non-Rangers fans are showing a despicable failure of solidarity with The Victims, especially the calls to CONDEMN! Whytey & Co, as if the man's criminal dodginess had ever been in doubt around these parts. If the rest of us were to act anything at all like the blue horde have in the last ten years, we'd all be angrily shouting about how fraudulent schemes aren't actually all that fraudulent, if you look at them with your eyes a bit screwed up, and claiming that Whyte is the real victim of a vast conspiracy of Rangers-minded state officials and football authorities. We'd be researching complex tax dodges to explain how the Ticketus loan wasn't technically a loan, because it was never supposed to be paid back. We'd be showing the red card to investigation. We'd be calling for boycotts and disinvestment to damage the Newco as badly as possible; picketing Police Scotland; marching on the SFO and Crown Office; launching investigations demanding to know who are these people; bombarding any journalist who dared to express sympathy with abusive emails and demands that they be fired. I'm all for solidarity with people who have been defrauded by wealthy shysters but seriously, the Rangers fans have shat the bed so badly, so many times and with such determination that there's very little public sympathy left. Had a decent number of Rangers fans or supporters groups spent any serious time in the last two and a half years e.g. organising against Whyte & Co and hammering football/justice organisations with calls to investigate his criminality, most folk would agree you'd been hard done by. A good number of people wouldn't, being dicks, but most would. But Rangers fans didn't do that. Instead, insofar as they've organised, it's been to think up creative ways to damage the rest of Scottish football as badly as possible, while furiously insisting that the club barely put a foot wrong in the last decade. So you know, thanks for the invitation to respect your hurt feelings, and all. I'll bear it in mind, if you'll pardon the pun.

  34. Ok so Youngsy, I can't see a reply, so you've chosen to ignore my, not setting up RFFFF to fund Whyte's company running your club option? How about, and open your mind real fuckin wide, when liquidation kicked in, and Green came along to rape you all some more, to a man, you said... Hang on a minute, something stinks here, we're in liquidation, how can this be? No mr green we won't follow your fairy tale, you're getting nothing from us, because never before has a club survived liquidation. This smells fishy and looks like you are just out to take our money off us. Inagine, for a second, the reaction having the whole of Scottish football behind you, supporting the rangers fans for taking a stand. Against green, against the governing bodies. That would have been the end of it, 50000 rangers fans, proud of their history, but surely more pride in walking away from that with honour and not being fleeced. What did your clubs fans do? Opened your wallets and boasted about how you'd given more to a share issue than what Celtic fans had to theirs. As a fan base, you will forgive me for not having one ounce of sympathy for any of you. It was all bout bragging rights. Nothing else. Your lives are consumed by them. King knows it, Whyte knew it, Green knew it. And they played every one of you like a fiddle. You gullible b*****ds.
