  1. Clyde played at Barrowfield Park from their inception until 1898 before moving to Shawfield, which was a former horse trotting ground. The club were struggling financially in the 1920's and a greyhound racing company offered to lease the stadium and give Clyde a percentage of the gate receipts, but animal racing was forbidden in the deeds of Shawfield. They managed to get around it by setting up a new company (largely financed by Clyde's directors), who bought the stadium from Clyde, and this allowed them to implement greyhound racing, and Clyde were now tenants. The then owners decided to evict Clyde and they left in 1986. Clyde announced they were moving back to Shawfield in 1988, but the owners did a u-turn and decided that speedway would be a better option. The speedway track cut into the grass (see below), so it couldn't host both.

Another interesting fact is that Shawfield passed right through the Glasgow-Lanarkshire boundary (I think a third in Glasgow and two thirds Lanarkshire). Clyde finished 3rd in Scotland in 1966-67 and should have had a place in the Inter Cities Fairs Cup, but there was a "one club per city" rule. Rangers had finished 2nd, and the authorities deemed Clyde a Glasgow team due to their membership of the Glasgow FA. Clyde tried to argue that most of the ground was in Lanarkshire but were denied their place and 6th place Dundee took the European spot.

    Excellent. Many thanks for that.

I actually knew the boundary situation. It's a good story and a bit like Chester's ground being part in England and part in Wales. TRS tried to use it to their advantage but also failed.

  2. Which came first at Shawfield...was it a greyhound track Clyde decided to move into or was it originally Clyde's football ground that they adapted to allowing racing as an income generator?

If it was always a greyhound track, where did Clyde play before and why move?

  3. Exactly.

Printing that 'story' is an embarrassment and I'm guessing that the majority of Celtic fans would cringe reading it.

They wouldn't print it if the majority of them cringed at it though. They lap it all up and believe what they're told. The embarrassing state of the Scottish football media reflects directly on the intelligence of Old Firm supporters as that's who it's written for.

  4. "Carragher delighted to receive Honorary Fellowship

Liverpools vice-captain and PFA Delegate Jamie Carragher has been given an Honorary Fellowship from John Moores University for his contribution to sport and charity.

The former England international, has amassed close to 700 appearances for the Reds, helping Liverpool lift the FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Cup and the Champions League.

"I am very much aware of the opportunities that the University provides for young people and the support it gives them to achieve their goals. This is something that I very much aspire to do myself, so it truly is an honour to become a part of the LJMU family."

    Jamie Carragher, Liverpool FC.

Carragher was granted the freedom of Sefton in 2006 recognising the work of his own charity, the 23 Foundation, which aims to give youngsters in Merseyside a chance to achieve their dreams through community initiatives."

Must be beacause he was an Everton fan as a kid.

Sir Jimmy Saville OBE was honoured, given 2 doctorates and the Freedom of Scarborough amongst other rewards because of his charity work. Must mean he wasn't a total b*****d after all then.

  5. Aye I'm aware of that but naw still no convinced.

You'll also know then that there are plenty of places leading to and in the massive car parks you could easily 'crack' someone without an audience.

Sorry, you may wish to deny it for obvious reasons but the whole scenario is totally believable and it says much about Carragher that non-Liverpool supporters don't think twice about accepting it as true.

  6. Lets start with spotting Lucas Neill in the Trafford Centre, having enough time to get your phone out, phone Carragher up and speak to him and he's still walking towards you.

It's very feasible. The Trafford Centre has quite long straight stretches where you can easily see someone coming from a bit away, especially if it's not too busy. Phone in pocket, out, speed dial, no probs.

  7. THE Football Association have told Southampton not to give the fee for Steven Davis straight to Rangers newco.

The agreed sum of around £750,000 has still to be paid and the FA have told the Barclays Premier League club that, for the time being, they should send it to the SFA.

That wont make any difference given most partners in a long term, loving relationship have a joint account.

  8. If you want to get your oar in about Traynor check out http://honestyinspor...e-or-phone.html

At the bottom of the page there are details of people to email or write to about Traynor, and also about wee Chic (if he ever appears again).

We have had more than enough of these arrogant idiots, who know nothing but can never admit their ignorance.

No point in complaining to BBC Glasgow. They employ them to meet their editorial policy ie. feed the OF, ignore all others.

What's needed are requests to London and/or Salford asking for a full investigation into BBC Glasgows sports departments handling of the situation eg why they are allowing BBC representatives to continually report lies and misinformation as fact whilst attempting to influence the future of Scottish football in the favour of one club. It may only be fitba but it's fairly serious stuff they're doing. Imagine if they tried these tactics before a general election or such? Probably better to add a map to any email pointing where Scotland and Glasgow is though.

  9. Unless further sanctions hit them their fate is in their own hands. If they come up with the necessary money they survive: if not they die. That way they can blame nobody but themselves. It's working out rather nicely.

They've already died once! They will never be allowed to really die. They killed themselves by cheating in the extreme yet still the authorities bend over backwards to bring them and their disgraceful past back to life. They are the cockroaches of football. Nothing will get rid of them.
