  1. It was a quite common term of abuse usually aimed at someone who had just done something a bit clumsy - I'm sure I would have used it as a put down. There's some quite infamous footage of John Lennon pretending to be a spastic on stage back in the 60s whilst he was a member of some obscure beat combo.
  2. Statin' the bleedin' obvious but West Indies tictacs will be to bat long enough to avoid being put back in today, time is as important as runs to them. Looks like the Windies bat down to 10 so I can see England needing to make quick runs in their second Innings to get two and a bit sessions to bowl on a pitch that won't start to help them until well into Day 6. ******************* Rain stops play briefly with West Indies having passed the follow on mark with no more wickets down. I guess England will be hoping a bit of moisture will get on the pitch and the Windies vice-versa, if the pitch remains batsman friendly it all points towards a draw. ********************* Again remarkably similar to the Antigua Test where England ended Day 4 153 runs ahead (if my arithmetic is correct) against 136 this time round. Second bite at the cherry for England tomorrow but on a pitch that still looks good for batting and an attack that must be tired after the first Innings - I'm gonna say draw!
  3. Just me myself today and a long one for England in the field, similar to Day 3 in Antigua. Windies 284/4 at Stumps, to put things in perspective Windies were 9 wickets down in Antigua although they were ahead in terms of runs scored. Do England have what it requires to take 16 wickets over the next two days?
  4. A lot of Kate Bush songs are inspired lyrically by books/films and have dark themes including incest & murder. Frank Zappa just popped into my head (not literally). a lot of his stuff wouldn't get released on a major label today - in fact it didn't back then as he had to start his own label to get control of his output.
  5. I said it was strange because plenty other performers from that era didn't seem to be conflicted as has been highlighted in the thread. ****************** I'll throw in Dylan's If You Gotta Go, Go Now (Or Else You Gotta Stay All Night) into the mix.
  6. Cinema Paradiso - that final scene.
  7. Looks like the sorta pitch you can chugalong at 2.5 runs/over safely once you get your eye in... Edit - 184/3 (78 overs) - new ball available in two overs. Edit2 - 250/3 (101 overs) - A day and a bit in the field for the England bowlers and the new ball seen off, can the West Indies cash in like England did when they were batting?
  8. Hurrah for the Ukranian war - trebles all round!
  9. That's a strange song for the era because Gary Puckett (do I get a point for knowing that?) is conflicted about what he should do.
  10. Richard Pryor had a significant input into the script before he was kicked of the project for his drugs arrests. It was a fillum that needed to be made at the time. I see wiki refer to it as a black comedy - somebody being a bit cheeky?
  11. I think King Louie's portrayal in the fillum is also beyond the pale these days - hell you could probably pick half a dozen of Disney's early animated fillums. ***************** Sweet Little 16 (Chuck Berry -1958), You're 16 (Ringo Starr) but a cover version of Johnny Burnette's original (1960) and quite a few others I could dig up from that era - 16 seems to have been acceptable back then and even up to 1974 with RS but would make most folk feel queasy now especially if being sung much older artist.
  12. Od fashioned Test Cricket the batsmen grinding down the bowlers in the first two sessions and getting their reward in the third as they tire, clearly England wil be looking to score over 500... I note Australia took Pakistan to two balls with three wickets required before shaking hands - the new normal?
  13. Ooft go away to make a phone call and it's game back on - with a new ball to come!
  14. Odds on a draw and then some - Australia's only hope is to get a wicket before the new ball & hope either Cummins or Starc has an inspired 4/5 overs.
  15. RR is over 5 an over (sic), these pitches are usually safe enough to bat on once you're established but 2/3 quick wickets might leave the tail with a tricky 15-20 overs to negotiate - with a new ball potentially for the final 11.
  16. Wordle 270 4/6 Like I said above having got greens for letters 2-5 on my second go I reckoned there were 7 options for Letter 1 - I considered a tactical guess to eliminate (or confirm) 4 options for Letter 1 but decided against - looks like I just got lucky!
  17. Wordle 270 4/6 Always the trickiest Wordle to get, so many options for letter 1 (7 by my estimate), I was tempted to try a tactical guess on No.4.
  18. We're bottom of the log-jam on 36/37 points but our next two games are "six pointers" and if we were to win both it would leave us on 42 which I reckon will be enough for sixth place - in the gutter but looking at the stars!
  19. Must win or we can start thinking about 22/23... Same for Utd?
  20. Slightly off-topic but does anyone know if the guy who recommended McCarthy & McGrath is a contact of Goodwin's or the club?
  21. Yeah, do either side have the quality to take 20 wickets on a pitch that isn't helpful? Non sequitur overall England must be slight favourites due to having three centurions in the first Test.
  22. 20 overs Drinks - Windies 43-0 243 runs off 51 overs - 4.77 runs per over (maybe just a bit too much). Much as I'd like to see the West Indies win I hope Root doesn't get too much criticism for the decision if it goes pear shaped for England - as I said above it was a brave decision given the pitch & bowling options available. Reckon Windies will take the light if/when offered leading to a draw. ***************** Wicket Maiden from Stokes pushes the RR above 5 for the first time - reckon West Indies will shut up shop.
