  3. Excellent post. Another example springing to mind about other external factors influencing decision making I'd chime in with is "not wanting to spoil an occasion"; its absolutely a real thing. Netherlands vs. Spain world cup (or was it Euros, genuinely cannae mind) was incredible, fair enough Holland got a mad amount of yellow cards and De Jong got a red I think, but iirc they ought to have finished with about 8 players if the ref had been a lot stronger. So Spain being the home team vs. a preconceived notion of Scotland clogging their way to a 0-0 to qualify may well be a factor, yeah.
  4. Cheers, yeh wasnt sure if they charge more as the VAT due is different depending on if you sit in or take away. Might have been confusing myself with regard to that pasty tax debacle a while back.
  5. Might have needled away at him about why it wasnt given for a while and the ref tried to clarify it in game to defuse some frustration (might make sense as McTominay was visibly pissed off)
  6. VAR is complete horseshit, settling down now i think theyve maybe decided it was a foul on the keeper first and gave that as the final decision? But then offside takes primacy or something like some BODMAS shit? So its... a clusterfuck, is what it is.
  7. Cheers aye, i couldnt make sense of it! Edited original post once i twigged, tbf im guessing they switch angles about. Its a shitey, soft way to rule a goal out.
  8. VAR Edit: that genuinely looks like they're using the goalkeeper as the last defender??????? Am i missing something? My eyes might be playing tricks on me or im being heated/daft but is there a line taken from the goal line to whatever that wee blue line is? No clue what the shaded area is meant to be. Waitwaitwait im having neuron activation; the blue line is the last defender so if theres any Scotland player with a part they can score a legit goal from in it, its offside? Dont like it at all, surely you need two lines, one for the last defender and one for the scorer if you're going to use this pish?
  9. Not sure i agree, theres plenty of movement in the box even at set plays?
  10. I was kinda seething and looking at my phone but aye, i thought my mind was playing tricks on me. Yellow line looked like it was using the goalkeeper as the last defender almost or some mad shit????? Or was i in a rage haze? Was it the broadcaster lines or Uefa's? Think the post match stuff is sometimes on youtube, i might have a wee look in case im going mad.
  11. Ive just remembered the keeper jumping into Robertson and fucking Andy's shoulder, now ive gone from confused to genuinely seething as Spain got a free kick for that and all... Nonsense.
  12. I know this is a bit of bias, but... is that not just weak goalkeeping? Feels very harsh.
  13. Look, it might just be nostalgia, but there's a couple of names I want to throw in; Iain Dowie? Proven bouncebackablity. 'Member Tim Lovejoy single handedly getting that into the mainstream? Alternatively - Alan Pardew would absolutely rape it as a presenter, in my opinion.
  14. is this not something to do with tax, think VAT due on hot food depending on whether you sit in or take away? Pop into greggs for a latte from time to time and im sure they have different menu prices where its dearer to sit in.
  15. Popped in my yt feed, know its brutal and just never feels like its gonnae end, but it'll hopefully defuse a wee bit of the tension on P&B. wish there was an obvious, palatable way for the conflict to stop.
  16. years and years ago tbh, some wild horror stories - same mum that gave away the £2k would allegedly claim that her (young adult) daughter was skint and needing a tap and go to folk with the begging bowl out... except her daughter wasn't skint and had no knowledge of any of this, she'd only find out and end up fairly bemused when folk asked her if she was still struggling for money desperation can make folk do some really awful things.
  17. I know someone who's family saved up, jointly, over £2k to give to her on her 16th birthday, which was transferred over to her mum to pass on to her. Her mum then proceeded to give that £2k to her own boyfriend at the time, who promptly bought a car with the cash and then dumped her a few weeks later.
  18. yeah, i did edit it to caveat that the more severe it is, the more likely you'll need professional medical advice to help you safely stop. only really applies if you, say, binge every Friday/Saturday or struggle to stop drinking on a night once you start.
  19. couple of things i want to say, just as general points, hoping someone can find these handy: i) dont be afraid to bite the bullet and go to the doctors for medication. ended up getting prescribed sertraline and, while not a wonderdrug, its definitely making a difference ii) this is harder, on account of the drinking culture & tbh there's every chance other people can handle it more responsibly but i went teetotal from the beginning of last september (long story but i went out to watch the old firm and my dad had to give me a lift into work the next day) and that alone has made a crazy, crazy difference to my mood/energy levels. took an nhs questionnaire thing that said i was at high risk of alcohol dependency, not at the point of sneaking a hip flask into work or risking my driving licence or that, was more a change in my drinking habits that every time id start it became automatic to blitz it, physically couldnt stop at one/two/three anymore. think theres some thing i read that alcohol affects how your liver processes fat too on top of the empty calories, i found an old pair of jeans i havent worn since i was about 18 that i can fit into again, well chuffed, so it'll help you physically too. genuinely dont think ill drink ever again, explained it to my regular drinking buddy and he's understanding so if you're worried about missing out on social events dont fret it, anyone worth their salt will get why. EDIT: the above is out of the scope of people with alcohol addiction issues, im lucky enough to be able to do it cold turkey, it's more just if you binge every other weekend id recommend trying to go teetotal.
  20. grim viewing; was one in there at night and the woman crossing was all in black so ive a wee bit more sympathy for the driver, but all the same its even more reason to exercise extreme caution at zebra crossings as someone could be less visible, distracted while crossing etc. The broad daylight ones are staggering, must be using mobiles while driving or something, surely.
  21. fully agree with the earlier ideas of them agreeing on some kind of clear, industry standard terminology (was brought in for aviation after the Tenerife air disaster iirc) but even at that, if they've already stopped/delayed the game... why not have some kind of emergency override/protocol for errors where there's a breakdown of communication? so the game is stopped again and brought back. guessing its a strict rule that once the game restarts after a check is deemed complete it's done, but it would've taken a few extra seconds at most, no?
  22. Duncan Ferguson will never send me a personalised video message, jovially threatening me to get my shit together
  23. I mind this coming up in my recommended a while back on youtube, impossible not to like the guy imo
