  1. Agree that we can't be carrying anyone, but that's also to admit that we're probably not bringing anyone else in at this stage. Ferdinand will be an exceptional case in that he arrived fit (ish). It's going to be a long autumn.
  2. I think the idea is that Gus would potentially be our caretaker every time we are between managers. It will ensure continuity and help to avoid the kind of clusterfuck we have witnessed this summer. If Gus is good at this and performs well, he's got a job for life. Why sacrifice that to be a manager again?
  3. Fucking hell, that would 1) be a great signing and 2) hopefully be the final nail in Stubbs' reputation as a manager.
  4. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/oran-kearney-should-beware-st-13251847.amp?__twitter_impression=true Press are determined to perpetuate this story about the St Mirren dressing room being full of snakes. Probably the most vitriolic coverage we've had for quite a long time, and it's utter, utter bullshit.
  5. Give him a break. St Mirren maybe missing out on a signing target is as good as it gets for Dundee United these days.
  6. Agreed: I suspect the players would have been happy to go Stubbs' way, if there was any evidence whatsoever that he wasn't as mad as a box of tracksuits. It's old ground now, but the Cammy Smith stuff looked absolutely crazy to basically everyone except Alan Stubbs - how can the rest of the squad hold any faith in the manager when that's going on?
  7. I have just got a very good feeling about this. And before the lurking Fakes fans mistake that for league-wining optimism, I don't mean that. I just reckon we might be on the verge of getting our club back (again.)
  8. That's a thoughtful appointment. I'm reasonably impressed. Renfrewshire is leading the way in kicking the usual suspects right off the managerial merry-go-round.
  9. Just realised I've talked about p&b as if it was somewhere else there. Spent so long flicking between different forums today
  10. Yeah, there was plenty of stuff coming out, almost from the very start. You tend to be optimistic and hope it's just teething stuff while they all get to know each other. Were there not stories about fights at La Manga quite early on? Except I heard them couched as if it was Eck and Gary Mack being the troublemakers.
  11. Yeah, that wasn't a specific go at McGinn - especially as we didn't know what was happening in that area. I was just trying to show how much of the squad could have been in place. He only needed to add some quality round the edges but somehow fucked that up.
  12. He could (easily) have signed Smith, and then just needed one experienced top flight centre half to replace Davis. It might not have been a perfect defence, but at least it would have had the head start of having mostly played together.
  13. Was wondering if that might be the case. A Partick fan on P&B was saying he was considered to be a bit of a smug dick by other coaches/managers up here. What if he really doesn't have any contacts at Everton after all? Or at least none who would actually trust a promising young player with him.
  14. That's almost certainly true, but my preferred technique would be telling them they weren't a one-man team, that Cammy Smith was PotY, that we can still worry teams going forward without him. It was probably a throwaway remark that might - might - have been ok if they actually liked the guy to begin with.
  15. It happened during training a few weeks ago. It led to Stephen McGinn squaring up to Stubbs. Ah, cheers.
  16. Several folk have mentioned it on B&WA (and I've just noticed DJC has talked about it above). It may be fictional, but seems to chime nicely with everything else we're hearing.
  17. So we were 4-1 down to Hearts at half time and he (allegedly) told last season's players that they should all send their winners' medals to Lewis Morgan, because they were a one-man team.
  18. When I was typing that post I had to check it was actually 2016 In a way it seems like yesterday, but in another, it's been a mad two years and a crazy amount of stuff has gone on. Four years since Tommy Craig was at the helm - seems like a lifetime ago.
