  1. I didn't actually think Darvel could do it until last night - I thought they had far too many games to make up but they are steadily moving up the table. They have some winnable fixtures coming up but it looks like it'll be between Darvel and Talbot at the end. Pollok and Clydebank will be kicking themselves after the last few weeks.
  2. He's fair doing the rounds at this level of football. Glenafton, Kilwinning, Hurlford, Meadow and now Auchinleck. Good player on his day but he doesn't tend to stick around too long at the one club. Maybe Talbot will be different for him.
  3. The team were superb today, that was 2-0 but really should have been 6 or 7. Pollok were really poor though. Not what I expected at all.
  4. They've had SJC matches on a couple of weekends now, which is a bit mad when trying to complete a 38 game season plus the other assorted mandatory WOS cup matches. Next season might have been a bit easier to fit it all in, regardless of how relevant non participating clubs feel about it.
  5. The British involvement with Ukraine prior to and during this war is confusing, and at odds with the behaviour of the politicians in government. On one hand, it's clear that BJ and co are knees deep in Russian money and appear to be heavily compromised, but on the other, Britain's armed forces have been training and supplying the Ukrainian military for several years. Like a lot of things here, it just doesn't add up.
  6. Clearly had his head turned. I can't really blame players at this level for wanting to chase the money - I don't imagine I'd be any different. He'll be a big loss if he goes though. Re Strain - Buffs are sitting 4th in a very competitive league and with a squad which has quite clearly been sacrificed for the ground upgrades. They've done far better than I expected this season tbh. But as Killiepiyo says - the sole promotion spot means that only one club will have a successful season. It needs at least doubled.
  7. Ah fair enough. You've played each other that often that it's hard to keep up.
  8. You got a home Scottish Junior Cup match against Talbot played on a Saturday a few weeks ago when Talbot were several games behind in the league and should have had that day to play catch up with the league fixtures. So I don't think you've necessarily lost out here.
  9. I've read all the Bosch books and after a while I really grew to love Titus Welliver's portrayal. The series are mostly adaptions of the books - some have more than one book running through them as a plot line. It gets better and better with each series as well. I'm disappointed they won't be making more.
  10. Hi folks, can you still pay at the turnstiles this season and if so, is it cash only? The information on the website doesn't seem to mention this.
  11. It's the rubbish sleep after drinking that prevents me from doing it. Occasionally on the weekend I'll have a couple with my friends who all live nearby, but I'm never in a pub these days. The only time I'll drink to excess is on a works night out, which are rare. I'll sometimes buy a case of beer because I do actually enjoy the taste, but more often than not it will take me weeks to get through it. I have nothing against drinking, or those who do it regularly, but I much prefer a good 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep [emoji16]
  12. I missed it the first time round but many congratulations on your arrival. One day all the hard times will be a distant memory. Work was a good escape for me during the tough times but it must be hard on your partner if she's there all the time. All the best.
  13. What is your organisation and line manager like in terms of employee welfare? Instead of returning without saying anything, can you put a case forward for working from home, citing your existing productivity and commute? If that isn't met with approval then could you suggest a hybrid system where you only go in a couple of days per week? Lastly, if neither of them is a realistic option, how about doing as the poster above suggested and getting a doctor's letter, recommending you with from home on the grounds of welfare, or mental health/anxiety if you are alright with disclosing the reason?
  14. Given Talbot's progress on the big cup and involvement in several other cup competitions, and with Pollok now having played 5 league matches more, would it not have made more sense to have scheduled the outstanding league match between Talbot/Meadow last Saturday instead of playing a junior cup tie?
  15. I haven't been away in years on holiday. What would you consider a good price for a week in one of the Canary Islands, decent hotel, at least half board, with transfers and luggage included?
  16. How is it decided who plays at home in the play off tournament? And is each game played to a conclusion on the day, i.e. extra time and penalties if necessary?
  17. I don't think confrontation with tier 6 clubs is really going to bother anyone. At the end of the day the tier 6 clubs will abide by the promotion/relegation slots that they are told to accept. I believe the introduction of Celtic/Rangers B teams into the Lowland League was an attempt to get them into the SPFL via the back door, since all other attempts had repeatedly been voted down by SPFL clubs. That possibility seems to have abated, but what have the two clubs accepted as a compromise?
  18. It was supposed to be for one year only. The fear is that it will continue in perpetuity and the new ruling that they can't be promoted is the trade off.
  19. It's good that if one of them do win the league then the play off space is not lost to the best-placed legitimate team. No word if the B teams will continue in the LFL next season though?
  20. I agree, thought the ref was decent considering the constant appeals from both sides. Every Kilwinning player was superb today - special mention to Ricky Hanvey who has been a loyal servant to the club, scored the winning goal and was a great example to every one of his teammates today. Hopefully the result keeps the league interesting for a while yet.
  21. It didn't cause any noticeable reduction in offensive behaviour and there is already existing legislation and common law to deal with criminal behaviour of this type. Thinking we can arrest or prosecute our way out of this problem is an outdated concept. It will only stop when clubs are deducted points for the behaviour of their fans, which is a minefield in itself and will never actually happen.
  22. For my relatively short period following Kilwinning (around 8 years) I'd have to go for Liam McGuiness. I just thought he was such a classy player for this level, he could read the game very well, he was a great passer and positionally excellent. It's a shame I only got to see him towards the end of his career. I know some Kilbirnie fans used to talk fondly of the partnership with him and David Anderson but that was before my time at this level unfortunately. A close runner up would be Ross Stewart, now at Sunderland. He was only at the Buffs a short period of time but he improved dramatically and by the end of his time he was head and shoulders above everyone else on the park. His last game was a play off against Shettleston for promotion to the West Junior Premier League and you could tell he was destined for a much higher level. A tough one for a lot of you considering how long you've supported the teams in this league and the number of players you must have seen pass through, but if you had to choose, who is your favourite player that you've seen play for your club?
  23. With most clubs having played at least half their league matches, with the exception of Darvel and Rob Roy, what does everyone think will be the points threshold for safety? If we say that 7 teams will go down that points us presently to Glenafton in 14th position, who are level with Cumbernauld and 4 points behind Rob Roy. Glenafton currently have 21 points and have played exactly half their matches, while Rob Roy have 25 (plus a game in hand over Glenafton). So a points total in the region of 50 or so should be enough to guarantee safety - I can't see many of the clubs below being able to put together a run which would take them anywhere near that total. I'd also like to think that barring a spectacular collapse, clubs from Hurlford (6th) upwards are almost guaranteed safety from relegation.
