  1. A surreal scoreline considering they came to Firhill the season before and horsed us 6-2 (if memory serves). My first game was a 1-0 home win against Meadowbank in October 1987. I remember my dad teaching me that I was to cheer for Thistle, and boo the opposition. Meadowbank were in black, as were the refs (and linesmen). The officials came out for their half-time warm up and were roundly booed by 4 year old me. First Scotland game was a friendly against Poland in 1990. I remember f**k all about the game. In fact, I was on the terrace playing about with some fellow wee boys and barely paid any attention to the game. I didn't really go to Scotland games until about 2000 because I'm an utter masochist apparently.
  2. Aye Caldwell was right to let Dools go. His form seemed to drop off a cliff in a matter of a season. Piping hot form in the top 6 season, then some goals the following as we got relegated, and then being pretty poor in the second tier with no sign of rediscovering any sort of form (given his lack of involvement for Ayr also). If he played for anyone else in the division I'd probably want him to rediscover his touch and bang in some goals, but I have a weird and inexplicable loathing of Morton and wouldn't mind seeing them relegated. So I'm a bit torn.
  3. This is a selective memory. In the same match Charlie Adam raked his studs down a Czech fella's shin, in the box, and the ref didn't see it. VAR would have given a penalty and a sending off. Utterly agree with the second sentence here. It makes me relieved I support a diddy team.
  4. seriously this is fuckin brilliant. I've been laughing my socks off at this. Awe.
  5. This needs one of those trigger warnings or one of those filters on fb where you actually have to click on it to see it. Going to a school utterly hoaching with **** and we get relegated the same day that they win the league for the first time in a decade. It was like fuckin VE day at school on Monday and I was the only one in mourning. It's the single worst day I've had as a fitba fan. So aye, because of this, I hope we fuckin leather you tomorrow.
  6. Aye? I'd always lived my life with the knowledge that Arbroath were the only team we didn't beat that season, which manifested itself in me having a bit of a soft spot for them (that and Andy Cargill being an absolute baller). E.T.A. I had a check and we didn't beat them that season. After promotion they came to Firhill and beat us 1-0 in a particularly awful game. The rest were a series of draws. Patronising soft spot in tact.
  7. This should make me wary of people, but it just makes me raging at them. Hiding behind bible quotes (and, even worse, non-bible quotes like "god helps those who help themselves") is cowardly and mendacious behaviour that merits nothing less than flaying. People with Union Jack tattoos tend to get a fairly wide berth from me. Grown men who wear Rangers tops when it isn't a match day. People who read the Daily Mail in public.
  8. I'm glad we don't need to figure in this discussion this season. Phew.
  9. Took the day off as it's my birthday. Genuinely psyched for this. 2-0 Arbroath. Gavin Swankie and Andy Cargill to score. The latter with a 60yd lob while smoking a cigar. E.T.A. Possibly smoking a haddie.
  10. I was surprised he signed for us, tbh, but we've been crying out for a horrible wee shithousing nyaff of a player for years. I can't wait to see him in a Thistle shirt.
  11. The second and third goals from Shankland really are something else. Wonderful player.
  12. Watched the first half of this and Gerrard won the tactical battle hands down. Celtic have better players, I think, but the way that the likes of Christie and Edouard were nullified speaks to a superior set-up by Gerrard. I have a feeling Celtic will massively regret taking the cheap option in Lennon.
  13. Aye this is bad news. My first thought on seeing the news was "oh shit I hope we're not too fucked!" so thanks to the good guys on here for being a grounding influence by reminding us that he was a man with a family first and foremost. I loved that he gave a clump of money to Largs to install what I think is one of the best pitches in the country. I'm glad he got to spend the last 8 years of his life living the good life, and I'm delighted he blessed my team with some of his winnings.
  14. Nah mate, I was just being flippant. I was irreverently pointing out, indirectly, that in a thread inviting fans to revel in recollection of joyous celebration (aka "scenes") you and a couple of your fellow doonhamers decide that the best use of this thread is in fact to clarify what exactly is meant by a decade. About half the posts from QOS fans are concerned with the exact beginning and end of a decade, which I suppose is indicative of a fairly dreich 10 year period for you chaps. I still hate that timewasting b*****d you had between the sticks in the Challenge Cup final, by the way. Have a lovely christmas a'body.
  15. Aye he had a wonderful knack of scoring crucial last minute goals for us too. During the festive period (2001, peak Lambie) he was brought on as a sub against Ayr (boxing day) and scored the winner about 10minutes from time. 3 days later Lambie kept him on the bench, bringing him on to score the winner against St Mirren. If we didn't have the utter silky genius of Scott Paterson in that team then Hardie would be my absolute favourite Thistle player. All the ingredients of a cult hero.
  16. Utterly gripped by the Queens fans on here steadfastly refusing to understand time. Muirhead sticking the heid on the QOS player in the challenge cup final was the moment for me. Beautiful. Getting our highest league finish since 1982 was nice. Otherwise a bit meh. Delighted to join the Pars fans in this seasonal BMMMH love-in.
  17. Going to mass in the morning (mainly for the Christmas carols and belting out Adeste Fidelis and Hark The Herald as the absolute bangers that they are) before returning to eat a big breakfast with the housemates and their weans (aged 1 and 3, so they're a hoot). Cooking and eating the turkey my pal and I killed a couple of months ago. I'm looking forward to cooking, tbh, and not being with my own family for a change. I fuckin love christmas.
  18. Comes on in 73rd minute and they concede in 80th minute to make it 1-2 Brighton It wasn't on his side though. David Luiz really is utter murder.
  19. Nice to see three young scottish laddies scoring too.
  20. Morelos is some player. Him shooshing the Feyenoord ultras was simply delicious. I fuckin love when players do that. Lovely stuff. Scottish football needs strong shithousery merchants.
  21. While we did scrape a win at home, we had Callum Paterson at right back, a weakness which determined much of Israel's attacking tactics. Hopefully with Palmer/Tierney at rb along with Forrest (who as a winger is excellent defensively) we won't be such a soft touch. I can see us employing the same high press we showed against Kazakhstan and the first 20mins of the Russia game and taking 3 or 4 off them.
  22. So just to catch myself up here. Are folk saying that we should be picking Jordan Henderson for Scotland? Kuro's derailment of threads really is something to behold. The fact that others seem to take his pish at face value is a huge riddy for all involved.
