  1. Oh yeah. And how exactly do you happen to know that?
  2. Regarding the Eastern Front in WW2 it is often the case that the German graveyards no longer exist. The Russians obliterated them. There were a few on the western front. Ronald Reagan went to visit one in Bitsburg. Resulting in an excellent single by the Ramones.
  3. Even if you accept that the Nazis were a bunch of evil shits, it must be tricky in history classes that the Germans are not allowed to cheer on their own country in any way. "At this point, the Bismarck fired a single shell and HMS Hood, the mightiest ship in the Royal Navy, exploded and sank within minutes". "Yes. You Beauty. I mean, no, how dreadful. What a terrible thing to happen".
  4. Thailand was on the same side as Japan but that is seldom mentioned. IIRC in Japan they were taught that there was a war and then it ended. No mention of atrocities.
  5. It has been suggested that the person who blocked his admission into art school was ultimately responsible for 56 million dead. Bit harsh I think.
  6. Re-enactment of the film Everest. As you can see there is a huge queue to get to the summit and clearly there are no oxygen bottles. Sadly not all these people are going to make it. Sigh.
  7. Her death made the headlines because she was already making the headlines. Her affair with Dodi meant pictures on the front pages every day. Then in an attempt to escape the people taking those photos, she died. In a sense, the people who greatly mourned her death were also indirectly the ones that caused it.
  8. Britain's power and influence decreased sharply after WW1 and again after WW2. Now it has decreased again after Brexit. For some reason, all of these downturns are celebrated.
  9. Away with you. I've seen him on BBC Scotland talking about the latest political intrigue and nothing suggests he would even know what to do with a guitar.
  10. Ritchie Blackmore was a massive fan of children's television. After leaving Deep Purple, his new band was briefly called Jackanory before somebody suggested Rainbow.
  11. I sure hope you don't work for the police department. Catching wrong-doers is a bit more challenging than simply asking them.
  12. You should watch the making of "Predator". At one point in the film Arnie and the boys fires hundreds of rounds into the forest and you can see the vegetation being mowed down. Only thing is this - they were firing blanks - so they had to think of solution to make it look like the bullets were real.
  13. Don't forget - Scottsdad quite likes Star Trek. In the film, the whole thing will take place at Starfleet Academy and the professor will be a Klingon.
  14. Good point. The first word should be "fewer".
  15. This video was sampled by Frankie goes to Hollywood for the song "Two Tribes". I remember the narrator Patrick Allen in adverts where he flew around in a helicopter telling you to buy a Barratt Home. Presumably safer than any other home in a nuclear war although that went unsaid.
  16. Already the case in the USA. Each state gets two senators whether it is California with nearly 40 million people or Wyoming with less than 600,000. One of the reasons why there are two Dakotas.
  17. A bit sloppy there. You forgot about Strathspey Thistle who play in Granton on Spey.
  18. You would have loved the Oban fireworks in 2011. They accidentally set off the whole lot in one go and the show lasted 50 seconds.
  19. I was told the planetarium is really good.
  20. I must be missing something. If somebody goes to university, does a degree in medicine, then goes to work in a hospital. Does that make them unsuitable to be a surgeon?
  21. In Toronto, the streets are defined as West or East according to whether they are West or East of Yonge Street, yet downtown Yonge Street is a sleazy dump and has been for decades.
  22. The Alamo is in downtown San Antonio and fairly close to a shopping centre. There are ice cream vendors nearby as well as a Madame Tussauds and a Ripley's Believe or not. As well as its location, it is surprisingly small. Like most places with a massive queue, it is not really worth the wait. Fortunately I was once there when the queue was tiny so I went in.
  23. I once went past one in Nashville that is exclusively heroes of Country and Western music. I have no idea what it is like inside and hopefully never will.
  24. But it has the world's deepest car park. Could be really exciting if you are into that sort of thing. I'm not. I am just saying ...
  25. Have either of these two launched a scathing attack on Boris Johnson for his inability to properly comb his hair. A total embarrassment on the world stage and hopelessly unpatriotic. Maybe not.
