  1. You absolutely are allowed to do that. But maybe also reflect that something you have said has led several other posters to reach the same conclusion.
  2. The reboot is now 20 years old...
  3. The Ice Warriors Very enjoyable, and interesting to see them for the first time. I have already seen The Seeds of Death, so was nice to see the thermostat being used as the ultimate weapon again. I enjoyed this one quite a lot. Good plot (isolated base, alien baddies, harsh conditions, etc). Good acting and characters well developed.
  4. This morning on my commute in, I clocked 4 drivers on their phones.
  5. I used to work with a guy who always said "wotcha". He is a Londoner, though.
  6. If you want to avoid air pollution, simply drive to somewhere with lower pollution levels.
  7. As a general rule if you're having a meltdown on a thread, having arguments and throwing around red dots, it should be someone else who comes here and lets folk know.
  8. Woman's relief as tonnes of dumped waste cleared from drive
  9. Policy has failed on its own terms...time to double down.
  10. It did happen a few times, likewise with acid attacks. Now, for a guy to take an action like this, he has to be evil/deranged. But feeling that society, fronted by celebrities saying "yeah, this is fine", approves even tacitly may have had an influence.
  11. The roll and bacon are even better of you combine them into a single entity.
  12. I don't beep people as that results in them giving me the finger.
  13. If I make a mistake and I know it, and someone beeps me, they get the finger. It's like a reflex.
  14. I asked my kid what her generation called the game where you knock on someone's door then run away. "Hermes delivery driver"
  15. Take, as an example, Danny Dyer. He had a magazine column where he advocated a guy cutting his girlfriend's face to make her less attractive to other men, cutting down the chances of her cheating on him. Yes, this happened. And yes, he's now apparently some sort of national treasure doing lovely travel shows with his daughter.
  16. Ah yes. The classics. "Looking forward to sitting in a freezing house wearing gloves and thermals all day and night. It'll be just like old times!" "I won't boil vegetables on the hob. I'll just stick a pan of water in the oven with my other stuff and use that heat to cook my spuds. And I don't care that the excess steam will destroy whatever else I am cooking. I like eating watery mush. It'll be just like old times!" "I'll sit in my cold, dark house with my wife chained to the radiator. I'll look out across the road at the lunatics using up their money on luxuries like a lightbulb or a hot water bottle. And I'll laugh, knowing I am winning at this."
  17. There have been a few interesting think pieces in the media examining the culture of the 2000s. 20 years ago and it was a very different landscape. There was a lot of fame hungry people getting an airing on TV and, to a lesser extent, the internet that wouldn't have beforehand and who made complete fools of themselves not really believing that this would stick to them years later. Think of a few Big Brother people and the likes who probably thought they would either be famous for life, or their behaviour would be forgotten about. Now with Brand, he never walked past a camera without making a show of himself, hence all the "resurfaced clips" that are appearing. We had newspapers giving out "swordsman of the year" awards to the likes of Brand or that guy from Blue who went round shagging people. It's unimaginable now. It's amazing to thing that the decade that had shows like the West Wing, the Sopranos, the Wire, 6 Feet Under and Breaking Bad also produced at the bottom end of the pile a generation of instantly-famous celebrities with no redeeming qualities. And that's where Brand came from, and where he belongs. A z-lister who lucked out getting famous, thought he could act a certain way and has been caught out.
