  1. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2023/may/02/thousands-of-hollywood-film-and-tv-writers-to-go-on-strike The WGA in America has gone on strike. Writers for TV shows are downing their pens and not writing. In the short term, live shows like Saturday Night Live might need to be binned as there is no comedy material. This can affect drama shows, too. Past strikes have led to shortened seasons of shows or bad scripts.
  2. I used to go out with a girl from Northern Ireland. Went over for a romantic weekend. Plane landed Friday afternoon and her dog died about 2 hours later. So, instead of spending my Friday night going tatters deep, I spent it helping her did dig a grave for a beloved family pet. All my plans out the window. I shovelled the dirt onto the dog corpse with some venom. The ultimate in cock-blocking.
  3. You're right except in one respect - I'm the soft touch. The wife said no this time; we have a whole bunch of birthdays this month and will be skint ourselves. Had she asked me first i would have just given the money over, grumbling away about it. It is very much the social media thing, and competing with other mums the same age.
  4. I haven't mocked anyone's choices. But when people say we should change managers the natural next question is - who? The criteria you put are sound enough - better than what we have and willing to come to us. I just don;t see many (or any) candidates.
  5. Roundly irritated with my step-daughter. She has 3 kids under the age of 5 - her choice, fair enough. At Easter her social media was full of her showing off all the presents she bought for her boys. Honestly it looked like Christmas morning. Add to that she is asking everyone to chip in for some sort of playhouse for the garden (cost: £600). Add to that, she is paying for 2 birthday parties at the end of the month - combined total cost of these (rental of soft play, catering, visit by a clown/superhero etc) is over £700. And she's harassing my wife and I for cash because she is skint. £30 last week, and again this week. The only time she gets in touch just now is to ask for cash.
  6. It was bad enough making the semi-final an early kickoff, so folk from Inverness had to get up at the crack of dawn. Doing it in the final as well would be very tone-deaf, so expecting it to happen. Anyway - as I said I would in the semi-final thread - best of luck to Caley.
  7. Getting a haircut later on. Do I go for my usual 1 all over, of the skinhead 0 all over?
  8. A great wee bakery, usually, in Alloa, has lost their shit.
  9. My step-daughter's dad once argued with us over his maintenance payments. He was paying the princely sum of £5 per week. We even told him he was paying for her school dinners, so he could see that he was at least feeding his daughter. He went to the CSA to appeal to get it cut. The appeal was rejected but whilst they were considering it he stopped payments.
  10. A shooting weekend with the Laird?
  11. For me, any talk of getting rid of McGlynn is a bit nonsense. He's steadied the ship after the utter shambles of the last 2/3 years. He has had to clear out a load of leftover dross (cheers G. Holt) and there is still some lingering about. Next year will be the first proper side in his image. Even if we stay down...what's the alternative? Bin him and bring in yet another inexperienced coach/ex-player/has been/never was? Anyone willing to say he should be sacked should back it up with at least one genuine candidate to replace him.
  12. Add me to the "Go see him" brigade. When my dad was terminally ill, and I mean right at the end, having visitors made his day. Otherwise he was just in the house being ill. Someone from the outside world going in, telling stories/jokes, talking about any old shite was really good for him. Also, a few people he thought were friends didn't come to visit him, and that hurt him a bit. Some guys he wasn't all that close to did come and visit, right to the very end, and I'll always respect them for that. They really made it better. Honestly, half an hour and a cup of coffee can make the world of difference at this stage.
  13. Good news on that front - a big, exciting day coming up.
  14. You are right. Where he loses the love is is playing style. He takes longer than other players and is more prone to safety play. Many fans prefer to see players taking more risks. Agree that he seems a genuinely nice guy. His words tonight were spot on. When Hazel Irvine is asking about the 147 and he said "Tonight is about Luca, not me" - a class act.
  15. Daily Heil reporting he had bowel cancer too.
  16. Same article as has been discussed here before. Here is their case: look at the dip in Scotland and England in mid-2020. The fact it is a bit deeper in Scotland has been attributed by this article to MUP. This is where this "13% drop" pish comes from.
  17. I tried this tactic as well with my wife and son. "You should go see it. It's great" They could tell by the haunted look in my eye and the twitch that wouldn't stop that I was lying.
  18. Normally when people die they just lie still, but Jock seems to hove done loads after his death.
