No, you read it without bigotry. I could parse the fucking thing until I'm blue in the face but you'd still claim he was threatening to bomb Buckingham Palace.
Bollocks, I give you the quote you asked for and you still contest it.
His comments are carefully but clearly designed to create apprehension over a hard border and a return to the past.
Then you fire out the old bigotry line, just for good measure well done you.0 -
He said: “Whenever the government promise there will be no return to the borders of the past, they don’t make it clear there will be no borders. The borders of the past conjures up the idea of British soldiers, checkpoints, queues of cars a mile long.”
“We don’t want borders of any description – you can now drive from central Belfast to central Dublin in an hour and a half. You won’t be stopped anywhere. You won’t see a red light and you won’t be stopped by a police officer unless you are speeding.”
So, he's saying that the government have promised there will be no "British soldiers, checkpoints, queues of cars a mile long" but they haven't made it clear that there will be no borders, right? Explain how that's "a lever by opportunist nationalists to create apprehension".
Just read the first paragraph you have quoted again. His intentions are clear.0 -
I'm just going to say "pish" until you find a link, ok?
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/oct/16/martin-mcguinness-calls-for-special-eu-status-for-northern-ireland0 -
Context? Link?
It was in the Guardian, McGuinness talking about 'images of the past' with regards to peace and security.
Brexit has caused a wave of anxiety over Northern Ireland the report said IIRC, it's just not true.0 -
Apprehension about what?
'Armed border guards with checkpoints causing mile long queues on a journey that usually takes only 90 mins'
Martin McGuinness Oct 20160 -
Sure, just a nice wee innocent family friendly bigoted hate fest sounds lovely.
That's your take Pep, let's leave it at that.0 -
It is though, you don't cross a sea to march in celebration of protestant supremacy annually cause you like the music do you? Nobody goes to make kkk rally cause they're really into white hoods.
I'm over four or five times a year Pep, not just July, next time end of Jan to get the train down to Dublin with pals to fly to Vegas for the Frampton Vs Santa Cruz fight! I love Northern Ireland, it's a fantastic place, Belfast City 2nd only to Glasgow. Yep I love the bands, always have done. I don't march, and have never claimed that I do. Yes the 12th is a great family celebration, we've done it as long as I can remember. Either side of that, it's a good opportunity to fish the Bann or head up the Antrim coast for a round of Golf. It's not what you'd expect, that's clear, get your blinkers off mate.
I know I'm probably a lot older than you, but I have never ever heard anyone use the term Protestant Supremacy, you're wrong pal.0 -
Lib Dems by a couple of '000

Yes it is. You know rob my dad's family have pretty serious connections to the uvf from way back. You must fuckin love us haha. I'm only joking, it's true though. Not the modern one the one way back 100 odd years ago.
Aye, ha ha! [emoji6]sure it makes for some interesting reading though Pep, I've done the War walks in France and Belgium some years ago, the Irish connections both North & South are very well documented and terribly sad.
I've said before that I enjoy some of your posts, but I wish you'd pack it in with the bigot chat, it isn't me.0 -
Hey I'd be happy enough with that. But will the good people of Wakefield , the Mail, the Express etc accept it? Let's face it, whatever happens with the artificial border will be decided by the good people of England, as usual.
No I'll trust WM, Stormont and The Dáil Éireann to secure an agreement with the EU.
I'm afraid the good people of Wakefield wouldn't be able to draw you the border using tracing paper!!
ETA Sorry that was a cheap dig!

Yet you said you're a member of the PLU community. Your words.
Is that exactly what I said Pep? Not that I have friends & family who would consider themselves as part of the PUL community? I grew up with it, I would never deny that.
Again I have no interest in religion whatsoever.0 -
Goldsmith is about as genuine as a Rolex bought at a Car boot. Lib Dems to take this.

A self proclaimed member of the farcical bigoted PLU community has no interest in anyone's faith or religion apparently. Or he'sa lying bigot oone or the other
Not you again ffs!
Aye I know many people who would consider themselves as Protestant, Unionist & Loyalist, in the same way that there is a community of people (in Norn Iron certainly) who would consider themselves Catholic, Nationalist & Republican, I've said before I don't have any problem with that.
I very rarely go to a Church other than very occasional family gatherings, I have no interest in religion. It would be rather hypocritical of me to judge others on their religious beliefs when I have none of my own. That doesn't stop me respecting their Faith irrespective of denomination.
Spin the record over Fuzzy, your reprise is getting really tiresome.

Maybe it's escaped your attention, but, Ireland's not leaving. Can you work out the rest from there?
Yeah I think so, leave the border as it is.0 -
Haven't watched it for the last 3 weeks, it's been bliss. QT has really gone down the pan.

The current agreement can't survive Brexit
If it becomes a border between the EU and an outside state then a new agreement between the EU and the U.K. will be needed.
If we end up with a soft Brexit situation on the Norwegian/Swiss model then that shouldn't be a problem. That would however leave the UK having to conform to lots of EU rules without having a say in how they're made so it may be a hard sell in Little Englandshire.
Wasn't the free movement of people integral to the original treaty of Rome 1957? We had an open border with the Irish Republic long before we joined the EU (EEC as was) in 1973?0 -
Aye right enough they are so sensitive about the border its wide open.
Aye there's never ever been anything sensitive or contentious about the UK/Irish border with regards to consociational issues eh!?
The current agreement works perfectly well, my point is that Brexit shouldn't be used as a lever by opportunist nationalists to create apprehension.0 -
Fair enuff. Apologies
No worries.0 -
I was shocked when he insinuated this
I insinuated nothing of the sort John, the ROI has been a sensitive neighbour with regards to the border since 1922. It has nothing to do with Catholicism. Another lazy jibe that I've just got used to on my time here. I have no personal interest in anyone's faith or religion.0 -
So... your saying the Westminster system is inherently corrupt?
It's not necessarily the system, it's those that abuse it.0 -
Fucking hell, this pish was debunked months ago. Utter desperation from RedHandRob and his fellow Yoon cretins [emoji23]
Reposted in response to Baxters lazy rUK MPs claim, Salmond's no different . He feeds at the same trough!0 -
I'd go for a sleep when those p***ks talk as well.
Aye, especially listening to McDonnell's pish!!0 -
Yes and yes. You don't really have a clue what's going on and are a disgusting bigot.
The little credibility you have left diminishes with your every post. You must have a permanent headache with all that noise going on between your ears pal.0 -
You're havering pish to comfort yourself wes, I almost feel sorry for you. Not quite though.
No answer to the question, just your usual response!
And you feel sorry for me!!? F*ckin hell.
Can I ask you again, do you think most Scots will vote to leave the U.K. whilst we are in the midst of leaving the EU? Will the clock just stop and we simply retain our EU membership as an independent Country? Seems the leaders of the EU are maintaining their stance that Brexit will only be negotiated with the UK as a whole. Unless you know something the rest of us don't? Nah scrub that, you probably really believe that you do!

Our understanding of English comprehension clearly differs. Doesn't he say 'they don't make it clear', what don't you understand by that uncertainty & doubt.
He said: “Whenever the government promise there will be no return to the borders of the past, they don’t make it clear there will be no borders. The borders of the past conjures up the idea of British soldiers, checkpoints, queues of cars a mile long.”
