  1. What's your point? If you are in a investment vehicle 100% correlated to the FTSE 100 then you may have recouped you money from a crash. Bearing in mind that if a market drops 20% it then needs to grow by 25% just to stand still. However, market timing in terms of buying and selling or even taking regular withdrawals could have exponentially exacerbated the drop. However, not very many pension funds or investments will be invested 100% in FTSE trackers and therefore other markets are more relevant, (other markets haven't recovered quite so well as they aren't as weighted by capitalisation). Depending on the nature of negative correlation and diversification within each portfolio, people and businesses could, and will, still be massively affected detrimentally about this. Perhaps people are just counting the cost of the fallout?
  2. I was talking about the economy to some colleagues just there and someone I know from TROON just said she didn't vote on the economy, she voted to stop immigrants taking our jobs. Did I mention that she was from TROON?
  3. The real kicker here is that Sterling is now so low that the past few years of austerity are essentially null and void. It was all for nothing.
  4. That was one of the best pieces of television ever. Start to finish carnage and revelations. Just awesome!
  5. FTSE 250 is far more relevant to the UK economy than the 100 which is weighted by capitalisation due to the multinational nature of it make up. 250 is not recovering at all. Please stop referring to the 100 as 'the markets', it is a market but basically just shows how our biggest companies are trading.
  6. I still think it'll be Howland Reed with the big reveal when we get to meet him properly. He was the other person at the Tower of Joy where baby Jon would have been discovered.
  7. Even she wasn't enough to raise the score. The scene where she takes scissors to her own hair and ends up with a salon quality layered and coloured bob set the tone for the whole thing.
  8. I not sure we actually heard him name an heir and legitimise him as a Stark. I think there was just speculation at the time that it would be Jon. It's a fair bet though.
  9. Fabulous episode. The battle sequences were amazing, there was a real feeling of peril amongst the crashing swords and galloping horses. That crush was one of the most claustrophobic pieces of television I have ever seen - I had a visceral reaction to that which is testament to all involved and the power of the scene. Wun Wun
  10. Divergent Series: Insurgent 2/10 Ridiculously bad film. The first one was bad but this was truly awful. The acting, the 'plot', the cinematography, the sound - everything was terrible. Just don't do it.
  11. Higgy wouldn't be a great loss. He's one of those players who's as much of a liability as an asset depending on whether him or his ego turns up. ETA: Spelling
  12. That was kind of the thing about the Purple Man in the comics though, he didn't ever use his powers to their full potential and just basically hid.
  13. Spot on. The older batched stuff is a bit pricey now though. ETA: Think my Sauterne was £55ish for a 10 year old cask strength whisky.
  14. I wasn't sure about that one. For the price I thought it was a bit rough. A wee Edradour Sauterne awaits me this weekend. Love a bit of Edradour.
  15. You tell us. Give us one piece of evidence that Killie are Sevco sympathisers. The only evidence people have is that we sing 'Killie Boys' and it sounds like another song. If people associate Killie that way it's because they are hard of hearing and stupid.
  16. You can fcuk right off with that tedious pish. There are people from Killie who support Killie - and they think your club is an abhorrent mess and an embarrassment to Scotland. There are also people from Killie who sympathise with your horrible views - please don't confuse the two groups, they are completely different. Also, please don't ever try to associate us with your club, in any incarnation, ever again.
  17. That's brilliant! Turns out my brother in law isn't the only mentalist then.
  18. It was definitely third wally.
  19. It doesn't have to be a SIPP for 25% Tax Free Cash or for the residual pot to be left as a tax free death benefit for your estate. You can take your 25% in various ways but if you choose to take Tax Free Cash and not take any income then they all essentially fall under something called Drawdown which can be in various guises. If you don't want Drawdown and would like a guaranteed income then you can still take 25% Tax Free Cash before annuitizing. Even if you do take income then your estate can still benefit from a tax free death benefit up until your 75th birthday if you have a certain type of Drawdown. After 75 then the tax on this type of plan would be at the recipient's marginal rate. This all really depends on whether you are in Capped of Flexi-access Drawdown, (you should consider applying Nominees Drawdown if you are in Flexi-Access). To answer Daydream's other question. Whatever income you take after your Tax Free Cash is taxed at your marginal rate, meaning that if you don't earn any money elsewhere at all then yes, you can take up to £11,000 tax free as income. Between £11,000 and £43,000 would be taxed at 20% and so on. The summary above is nowhere near comprehensive enough to explain tax free cash or pension options as you may have a final salary scheme or something called a section 32, (or many other schemes). These can entitle you to enhanced tax free cash at greater rates than 25% and may also offer other guarantees however you would lose these if you chose to move. In short - pensions are complicated.
  20. The trick is to always have your investments and timescales aligned with your attitude to risk and capacity for loss. i.e. If you absolutely know that you need a specific amount in 1 years time and cannot afford the capital to drop at all then cash is king. However, if your timescales are longer then you risk tolerance will probably be higher. They will probably tackle pension tax relief at some point but it will be hugely unpopular so I'd imagine it will be a gradual decrease rather than an overnight stop of these benefits. The fact that they changed the wording from Tax Free Cash to Pension Commencement Lump Sum and then put in brackets 'currently tax free' would suggest that this position is being considered though.
  21. It's just a theory. I would argue against my own point with Maesters Luwin and Aewon. Luwin was just too bloody nice and Aewon could have had power naturally if he craved it rather than manipulate and scheme to get it.
  22. Surely that was the point. We know that he is using his apparent frailness to gain trust. It's all in the name of the game. Also, generally the Maesters are the forgotten player in the whole series. They are there are the seat of power pushing and manipulating- perhaps this is a ploy they use to help manoeuvre themselves - after all he's just a frail old man and therefore no threat .
