  1. Yeah, Tait has been pretty good. I'm not actually sure he drops out for Tanser right now even if Tanser is fit. It's just wether you are confident in him doing that job long term or not I suppose. Probably depends on Shaughnessy leaving. If he does I expect we will sign a new LB and Tait will become general cover for the whole back 5. That's probably a better balance tbh, as at the moment Strain and Tanser being injured would be a disaster.
  2. I actually think prime Broadfoot would walk into our current side in all honesty. I think that's another part of the reason MacPherson's reign isn't looked on as fondly, some of the guys who were big players in his sides are seen as total wankers by our fans these days. If you were doing one of those "best teams of the last 20 years" or whatever, then Broadfoot should probably be in there, but he never is, because everyone thinks he's a dick.
  3. I think part of the problem was that MacPherson's teams were a bit boring. Even when we won the league it was a pretty hard working, hard to beat team. The season we won the league, if we were 1-0 up you were pretty confident we were winning. We didn't really blow teams away like we did under Hendrie or Ross. Whenever you see one of these all time XI or favourite ever players discussions on here the guys who played in MacPherson's teams never feature as highly as the 99/00 team, 11-14 Lennon team or even the Ross era, and some of those that do, like Van Zanten, S. McGinn and Murray are more in it for things they did in other teams mentioned. Still, I started supporting St Mirren in the late 80s, and most of my teenage and early 20s St Mirren were a shit championship team mostly fighting relegation to league 1. We were as relevant as Morton. Gus was the one that got us out if that.
  4. Robinson did say something about bigger clubs looking at players after the match on Saturday.
  5. TBH, if that's true, then it's pretty grim and won't get better till those players are gone.
  6. It'll be interesting to see us up against a team as physical and hard working as us, especially in midfeild. I'd say County, Hibs and definitely United are quite soft, especially in midfeild, and Baccus, Erhahon and O'Hara just ate them alive. I think there will be a few teams though that will stand up to that a lot better. If we can beat St Johnstone then the 4 games after that will be a huge test, Hearts, Celtic, Livi, Rangers. None of them will be bullied the way United and Hibs were.
  7. But this is happening now. It's already at this level with the last price increase, it's just been mostly affecting poorer people and has been mitigated by the fact it's been summer. There will be more people in this position when the October prices hit, way into the middle classes.
  8. Yeah, tax cuts might help the middle to higher income people that are about to be fucked by this, but will do nothing for the poorest, which is probably why it appeals to the Tories so much.
  9. They aren't benefiting from swells of customer base, hence why they couldn't get anyone to take the huge Bulb customer base, which is now effectively state owned. Every new customer they do take is at a loss. If they wanted to get a large customer base right now they'd just put their prices below the energy cap, but then they'd go bust.
  10. Suppliers are not coining it in at all, most of them are making losses. That's why the cap is going up and there is no switching market at all right now.
  11. In mitigation, that Dundee United team was managed by Csaba Laszlo Which just goes to show how much difference a good manager made!
  12. Yeah, but to be fair to him it was Ross who brought in Magennis and made him a first team regular, signed McGinn and got the best out of Morgan and Mallan. Ross turned us from the worst team in the league to the best in the space of one transfer window. As well as McGinn, it was Ross who signed guys like Eckersley, Davis and Smith who were just as vital in the turnaround in that team, and the Dundee United team he finished above were spending a lot of money and had better players on paper. If it wasn't for Ross we could easily be a Falkirk right now, or at least a Dunfermline. As much as it's funny to laugh at him a bit now, it's not really fair to play down his achievements with St Mirren.
  13. The tears and snotters in the replies to that tweet from various backwater dwelling bumpkins from all over Scotland who would never have been anywhere near the game are beautiful to see. Making OF fans seethe over your very existence is one of the good things about being a diddy fan.
  14. I remember in the famous 0-0 victory over Celtic last season Main getting a break when he went through on the keeper to shoot and there was barely a ripple of excitement as nobody, including the man himself, thought there was any chance of him actually scoring. In fact, I think most of us would have been happy for him just to punt it over the bar as it would waste a bit more time, but he just tamely passed it back to the keeper instead. The difference between that guy and the guy we've seen under Robinson is incredible.
  15. One thing Snodgrass would give us to be fair is a much better delivery from set piece. Tanser is decent enough most of the time when fit, but Snodgrass would be a step up. I'm pretty sure we are not in for him though. Would seem a fairly expensive gamble at this stage, and one we don't really need to take. If we can sign one more player, I think we would be signing someone who can play on the left (though Tait has been pretty good last couple of weeks). It's good to see some real depth in the squad though. Look at our bench yesterday and we are able to throw on guys like Brophy, Kiltie and Grieve to really keep the tempo up and pressure on. Compare that to the times under Goodwin where we had 4 or 5 subs and two of them were keepers. Night and day.
  16. Yeah, from what I know of the guy he's not got a bad attitude at all, he's just not very clever. He's got all the physical attributes to be a great player, he just doesn't seem to always understand what he's supposed to be doing out there. I'm sure he's had a couple of managers describe him as "uncoachable" before.
  17. The officials kept the score down mate, some absolutely horrific decisions went against St Mirren today.
  18. Said it on the other thread, but it's being built on that midfeild 3. They destroyed County last week and it was the same today. I really hope we don't lose any of them as I think the ability to change it up when they inevitably get tired/booked will make us so difficult to play against as they play with such tempo and just snap into everything.
  19. O'Hara proved a few folk that were questioning his inclusion wrong. Absolutely barnstorming performance. That midfeild three are fucking excellent, must be so difficult to play against. Throw Gogic in there as well and nobody is going to like coming up against it. If nobody leaves, with the 5 sub thing as well, they can play full tempo untill they are knackered and you can bring on another one. I think things are starting to come together a bit...
  20. If Gallagher had made that challenge this ref would have sent him off.
  21. Good first half and deserved lead, should really be more. Just got this feeling the ref is going to absolutely f**k us here. Red for Baccus or something.
  22. We are getting absolutely nothing from the officials here. We've all seen how this ends up...
  23. If keeper was the most important position it would be the best paid with the highest transfer fees, but it's not, it's always high scoring attackers and creative, goal scoring midfeilders. These are the guys that win teams trophies. Keeper is important, but really it's just important not to f**k it up. You don't really need a superstar keeper, you just need one who'll do the basics well, make the saves you'd expect them to make, and not make many mistakes.
  24. Have we not been in for Gogic all summer? As far as I can remember we were trying to sign Gogic in July when pretty much all our summer signings had already been made. I think there is a good chance this had already been budgeted for.
  25. Did he not play for the colts in the challenge cup the other day? There was someone listed at CB who was called Campbell.
