Off The Ball - Is it good?
Salvo Montalbano replied to Buddist Monk's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
Whereas the English FA said they'd go even if they finished second. And promptly lost 1-0 to the USA. -
I'm deepest, darkest Fife growning up a "tink" just meant a bit dirty. Your mum or dad would say "wash your face, you're a tink" or similar. I think "mink" was also used - not sure if it was a rhyming slang type situation or a combination of tink and manky? A tinker was someone who dealt in second hand goods, often but not exclusively door to door. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Rich Man, Poor Man, Beggar Man, Thief. Never heard either refer to a traveller though - they were usually "gypsies" (which of course is mostly ignorance as some but not all travellers were romany gypsies). Incidentally, when I lived in Southampton, travellers were called "diddicois" (might be/probably spelling that wrong). No idea of the origins of that or if it was/is deemed offensive though.

City (Cup) of Wonders
Salvo Montalbano replied to HibeeJibee's topic in East of Scotland Football League
And why the relatively late kick-off? 8 pm seems an odd choice for a final that could presumably go to Extra Time and penalties? -

Had the radio on pre-match, and they were all talking about how incredible the atmosphere was going to be and how massive it was and all the usual. Had to nip out for milk later and listening to the commentary it was like it was off-tube rather than at the stadium. It was like back in covid times when you could hear the ball being booted about and the shouts from the players. Some atmosphere right enough.

Petty Things That Get On Your Nerves...
Salvo Montalbano replied to well fan for life's topic in The General Nonsense Forum
Got the wee man a Happy Meal from McDonald's (yes, yes, I know) and the book that came with it about adventurers and pioneers had a wee glossary at the back... "Ick-thee-oh-saw" indeed. We aren't in England, we pronounce our Rs. And even if we were in England, that's still wrong. -
Guardiola for the banter. Man City charged and demoted to League Two, he leaves citing the "if they have lied to me, I will leave" speech when the charges were first announced, heads explode all over the North West of England. Or the Sporting Lisbon manager. One of the two.

Livingston - all the threads merged
Salvo Montalbano replied to TheDoctor's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
Interesting that he attended - and fair play for him for doing so - but I'd imagine we'll be trying to bring him back to EEP on a permanent basis for next season. He seems to he enjoying his football and is playing well. -

So surely the answer would have been "not long now Kenny, we're into injury time. There's no 4th official of course so not sure how long left". Easy. -
They also said that you couldn't buy an OAP ticket with a Child's ticket - it had to be a full price adult in order to get a kids ticket. Best case scenario is a Raith win here followed by a proper arse collapse in the following games for the banter.

Scotland Vs Northern Ireland
Salvo Montalbano replied to Claudia Gentile's topic in Tartan Army Ramblings
Interesting take on the error from JJ Bull (tactics analysis at the Athletic). You'll probably need Twitter/X or some kind of Tweetdeck to read the full thing, and I know that he and his ilk have as many detractors as fans, but thought it was worth posting none the less. Not that I particularly agree either, tbh. https://twitter.com/jj_bull/status/1772722736206413984?s=19 -
Scotland Vs Northern Ireland
Salvo Montalbano replied to Claudia Gentile's topic in Tartan Army Ramblings
Where to start? Tierney and Ferguson get a 6/10 for me, the rest are lucky if they deserve a 4/10. Terrible across the board. Passing was woeful - how many times did we have a man in space and then either take too long to deliver the pass or play it behind the man rather than a yard in front? I don't see what Christie offers as an attacking player these days. By all means play him, but in the deeper role that he now plays for Bournemouth. Dykes offered nothing and Shankland didn't look like he's the guy who'll get you a goal when you're desperate. We'd probably be better off playing McTominay or Ferguson as a false nine given we don't look like scoring from any of our centre forwards. Liam McLeod on the BBC commentary I'm sure said that Steven Pressley is on the coaching staff at Brentford and told him Hickey might not make the Euros? We'd better hope Pressley is as wrong as he usually is. What was the point of having 4 keepers in the squad for Gunn to play 180 minutes? Was it just so they could have 2 games of fives going at the same time? Are we now in a position where all our last games v all the other Home Nations are losses (NI tonight, England last year and Wales a few years back)? What a minter.
